Silverton Phase II

Jul 10, 2008 17:14

Well, it has been quite a while since my last update, but I have been crazy busy, not to mention that we lost all internet connection at the house for whatever reason. Weaker signals from the surrounding areas? Who knows? Not me. So, interesting bit of time...

I got one of the biggest compliments I could possibly have received from two of the people that it means the most to me coming from. It was a somewhat private conversation, so I can't really put it up here, but I was basically told that they believe I could actually make a living out of it, and that they think I'm super good. There's more to it than that, but again, you'll just have to imagine. Then, when a friend saw my show, he said I was the only one who actually seemed comfortable and natural up there. Awesome. This place has been great for my acting.

The kids are amazing. I'll have plenty of pictures when I come back. I've made a couple of friends among them and really appreciate what they've done for me. It's amazing. I have more energy, a renewed outlook on life, feeling more adventurous, and taking less for granted. Not to mention a boost in my imagination and creativity. Or maybe it's just the place itself. I don't know.

Made some really good friends among the interns too. They are so wonderful and I can't say enough about them and the support they've given. I try to return the favor as much as possible.

I fully believe this is a magical place that really forces you to learn certain lessons. And boy am I learning them. This place is kicking my ass, but in a really good way. Though I'll be happy to be home, I'll be sad to leave. There's such a charm about this place really, that I'll greatly miss. Hopefully I'll be able to come back again next summer. I would like to anyway.

The 4th was amazing. Silverton probably has the best 4th of July I've experienced in a long while. We started with the parade, for which the kids and the interns made a float for. That was fun. Then was the waterfight between the fire depts of Silverton and Durango, which got me soaked. It was awesome. They hooked up the fire engines to the hydrants and went at it with one another. Then I slept, had some dinner at Marianne's (which was AMAZING) with everyone, and then saw the fireworks. They echo all around the valley. It's incredible.

I took a runaway truck ramp. Yes, irresponsible, yes, kind of dumb... but I've always wanted to take one, every time I drive by one, so I finally did. And got stuck in the pit of rocks at the end. Apparantly they dig these pits about four feet deep and fill them with rocks or sand or something, to stop the trucks obviously. So I was axle deep in rocks (couldn't even put the car into reverse b/c the rocks were blocking the gears) until this lovely couple in a jeep pulled me out. Something that Tate and I will never forget.

I also twisted my knee. So I'm on crutches now until it heals. We had to cancel a show b/c of it, and for last night and probably the rest of the run, I'll be on crutches for it. Sad, but that's the way it goes. At least I don't have to be understudied. When we were thinking I would have had to be, I was devastated. I'm still hating it, b/c I'm not dealing well with not being able to do things for myself, but I'm making it through. Basically I was hiking and slipped on a loose rock while on a steep incline. I am thanking my reflexes for grabbing onto the tree/shrub thing nearby so that I didn't fall the other 20 or so ft into the river, which would have hurt much more. So I have an MRI on Mon to find out if it's just a sprain or if I have a torn meniscus. We'll see. Wish me luck.

My birthday's in two days!!!!! Woot woot!!!! Wish me happy birthday!! Yay me!

So that's about it. Closing the show soon, probably on crutches, starting the next one after that, the kids are great and I miss them terribly (b/c of the knee I haven't been able to work with them all week, but will be back next week). Don't really know what's going on back home, just b/c I don't have the time to read up on the past two to three weeks worth of postings, but I'm sure all is well. Until next time... Al'Italia!
