I've got the itch
Is this too ambitious for a 2009 summer travel plan? I have an itch to travel, and I know that this summer is one of the last opportunities I'll have to do this kind of ridiculous sweep of a continent before I have to settle down and get a real job. (If any of those are even available in late 2009, that is.) Assuming money is no object, my idea... in a logical, though somewhat daunting, order.
Baffin Island (Canadian Arctic, eastern)
Ottawa
Southern Ontario
Western Michigan
Chicago
side trip to Minneapolis and return to Chicago
train to Kansas
drive/bus/train (?) north from Kansas through Nebraska to South Dakota
Badlands National Park, Mount Rushmore, Black Hills
drive/bus/train (?) to Wyoming
Teton National Park
Get home somehow (possibly via Salt Lake City?)
Kitikmeot (Canadian Arctic, western)
If anyone has any words of encouragement, discouragement, or any personal experience of travelling through the Plains states that they would be able to share, I would really appreciate it.
