Brighton and other bits

-- Sorry about all the detail, my brain isn't in top editing mode today! --

Last weekend I took reddragdiva to Brighton to celebrate having been together for a year. He's Australian, and though he's lived in this country for a few years he hasn't seen much of it. I love showing people places that I like :-)

We took the train from Victoria, and on arrival immediately stumbled across a zombie walk (it was Halloween). I don't deal too well with crowds, so we picked our way through them and found a less crowded route to the seafront. D wasn't interested in having a look around the hippie shops; I was, but there were too many people around so we walked past and emerged near the Royal Pavilion. (I'd hoped to show D round the Pavilion on Sunday, but we had to skip that because of *stuff* happening.) We walked along the beach to our hotel and dumped our stuff.

It was nearly dusk, so we popped to the beach again near the carcass of the West Pier to witness the flocking of the birds before they roosted on the pier. I love the West Pier... it shows that things that have been made by humans can crumble away and be used by nature and not us.

After spending some time in an unremarkable but handily quiet pub, we went in search of food, finally picking a fish and chip restaurant on the middle of the Palace Pier/Brighton Pier. We walked back to our hotel again, and stopped to look at the Palace Pier all lit up, with the nearly full moon in the sky and the pier lights illuminating the waves. Beautiful. Early night for a bit of how's your father.

Our time in Brighton was cut short because of stuff happening. I was awake before dawn and full of nervous energy, so I jogged from the West Pier to the Palace Pier, walked for a bit, then jogged back to the hotel culminating in a fun sprint. When I was out on my early morning jog there were still zombies out drinking, and plenty of night people wandering round in a daze. Getting back was a PITA as the train to London had been re-routed to go everywhere in the South of England that it could possibly go. 50 mins from Victoria to Brighton, 2 hrs + from Brighton to Victoria. It was good to get home!

Photos to come another time, they're on D's camera. No cheesy couple shots unfortunately... I didn't get round to it.
