But I would walk 500 miles

Since developing RSI in both wrists quickly followed by shin splints, I have re-discovered going for long walks. As a teenager, living in a semi-rural area, I often used to head out on my own and tramp up and down the countryside. Living in the heart of London as I do, it is very easy to get to interesting places on foot. When I've grown tired of what is local, I have got onto public transport and taken a walk from there.

I got a cold this week which put me out of action somewhat. I listened to my body, and my body said 'lie around and complain a lot' so I did. I have been planning walks from my sofa. The first walk I want to do is from the Thames Barrier near Greenwich to Hampton Court Palace, along the Thames path. According to an old walk guide I've got that is 29 miles, but I think more of the path has opened up on the Greenwich peninsula, bringing that up to more like 30 miles. I am going to do this walk in stages, and I want you to sponsor me if you can! It's for an excellent mental health charity called WISH. Their website doesn't reflect their awesomeness, so I won't link to them! I intend to start my walk next weekend when I'm sure I'll be fit and ready. I'll take lots of pictures and do updates, all the while asking you for money. I'll *try* and do it in three days if I can, but if it takes longer I'm fine with that. I'll be spreading the Thames Path walking days over a few weeks.

Today I am leading a walk for people who go to the same Slimming World group as me. We are going to have a gentle walk around Hampstead Heath. The route I've chosen is only 1.5 miles long, but I want to make sure that people of most fitness levels can complete it. I'd like them to be inspired to do more walking, not wake up the next day thinking 'never again'. I'm a little nervous that no-one will show, but then I often am for events I organise, and it's not happened yet. The worst thing that'll happen is that I'll have a pleasant walk around the Heath on my own. I fancy organising another one around Regent's Park.

Do you walk for pleasure? What sort of locations do you walk in? Do you walk to work/college? What's your favourite walk?
