Naivety of Nye falls away painfully

I was playing San Francisco (gotta love those chords) and suddenly, deeply felt let down by the baby boomer generation. I've been buying into the ideas of the sixties that were portrayed in the media for years. It's only really recently that I realised that it was only a really small number of privileged people who were rolling around dirt preaching free love while the rest of the world was busy being its usual sh1tty place. I expected John Lennon to save me even though he died when I was 5 (and was a pretty big hypocrite anyway). I expected the people who were marching against the bomb in their youth to save us from Trident now.

And now, the people who are growing up say they care about the planet on the one hand, but refuse to do anything about it that will affect their lifestyle on the other. Recycling and using energy efficient lightbulbs IS NOT ENOUGH. There is more and more car ownership. Trains are getting less energy efficient because they are doing so many fancy and unnecessary things that use up electricity. Hugging trees doesn't always help. (I say doesn't always help cos it makes me feel better.)

Argh, what are we doing?
