That When I Need You

I need it quickly.
In fact, you'll never know.

Just this past Friday I sent the day with Yayoi in downtown KC.

It was a lot of fun despite the both of us seeming to feel a little awkward around the other. Yayoi and I really don't know each other very well, so I think that we still have a lot of getting to know each other to do before we can be more comfortable together.

We started in Westport at one of the many art stores in that area. One thing I enjoy about Yayoi is that she's an artist. The one thing that I envy about her is that she's more serious about actual art than I am. n_n' She kept asking me questions about if I knew so and so artist and things of that sort... and I had to keep on telling her that I had no idea who she was talking about. n_n' I'm just not interested in those sorts of things. While I enjoy going to museums and looking at what other people have created, I'm just not interested in who did what... when they did it... any of those things. It's part of what makes me anxious about starting my summer online art history course - but more on that later.

After the art store, we got smoothies. Poor Nate, the smoothie guy, was working behind the counter as always. I don't know if I've said much about Nate here, but here's a recap if I have. Not long ago, a new smoothie place called "KC Juice" opened in Westport. I was pretty excited about it opening since we have NOTHING in the way of smoothies in my area. And ever since it opened, I was kinda crushing on the guy who worked there. Mostly it was just because he was kinda cute and nice to me. Then I started learning more about him: his name, that he plays guitar, owns a Mac, has a dead beat brother... It was starting to become a big stress in my life since I'm still not anywhere near being over my last relationship. Talking with Nate started to make me uncomfortable when it really shouldn't have. I think it was a saving grace when I found out on my last visit there (with Yayoi) that he was also not single. It just took so much pressure off my mind about visiting there. It was nice that it was something he brought up himself too. n_n' I wanted to talk to him about my going to Buzz Under the Stars, so I asked him if he had been able to go to any concerts yet this summer (since summer is the "concert season"). He said that he'd been to some death metal concerts (as that was his thing), but that he really didn't have much personal time due to his dead beat brother not coming in to help him work (since they both own the place). This left him little time to spend with the new girlfriend that he has. It really made me feel for him. I hope he can get some help in the shop soon so that he can have more time to himself and his girl. :/

After smoothies, we did some shopping, and then went to Nara for lunch. Did you know that Nara is in Missouri too? XD Sadly, there were no deer to feed senbe crackers to. XD Kidding aside, Nara really has a great happy hour! And their sushi chefs are ACTUALLY Japanese! After dinner, we had time to kill before the show, so we spent a little bit of time on the Plaza. Then it was time for Demetri Martin!

I had never been to The Uptown Theater before, so I had NO IDEA what it looked like inside or where our seats might be. Needless to say, when I got to see both of these things, I was pretty disappointed about how much I had paid for the tickets. We were almost at the very back of the lower level, with the balcony creating a cave-like feel for us as it loomed above. Thankfully the show was still excellent despite all of this. Demetri was even funnier live than on TV, very kind to give us the chance to make requests and pose questions, and handled the heckler in the crowd quite humorously well. The only disappointment I had after the show was that he didn't stick around for photos or autographs. I've grown so accustomed to comedians doing that from college and Stephen Lynch, so I was really hoping that I could snag a great gift for a friend... but it wasn't able to happen. :(

Before dropping Yayoi off, she offered to get me a drink. We had drunkin, depressing relationship conversation. n_n' I was glad to get to know her, but it was quite depressing to hear that her relationship problems are pretty equal to mine. -_-

Yesterday I spent most of the day feeling really mopey. I had hoped that going to see "Up" would help improve my emotional status, but the movie only made me feel even more alone and like my life was without meaning or adventure. I'm sure the movie is supposed to *inspire* those feelings, but I have never had a movie make me openly cry so much as that one. -_- I ended up almost making myself sick while on the phone before I went to bed.

So that leaves us to today. The night time meds I took last night caused me to sleep in much later than I like to, but also made me feel unusually calm. It was a nice change from how I was feeling last night, that's for sure.

I start summer school tomorrow. I'm hoping that this is a good thing for me, but I really just don't know. I'm so tired of feeling like I can settle into something, and then to be uprooted from it for one reason or another. I want to take root into something so badly... so I hope this is the right direction for that.
