Well, its Friday. The day before the year end awards thingy. I know a lot of folks are showing up, I just hope we put a hurt on the bar. I love seeing busy bartenders. This year we have awards for the first time, and we have a wide variety of catagories. I allowed the fans to vote on much of it, and I tempered that on a sliding scale based on how many shows over the last year the person was on, and how the crowd reacts to people (I checked tapes). So, chances are if you were only on one show or two over the last year, you didn’t win. Also, anyone that doesn’t show up tomorrow isn’t eligible for an award either. Sure, I have the winners written down, but if they don’t show up, I play it by ear.

Tonight I have to burn CD’s for the event. I don’t know if the DJ will be there or not, and honestly, we don’t need one. I will just burn a few CD’s, put them on play and enjoy myself. I am honestly looking very forward to the whole thing. Good times will be had by all, I am sure. I will be dressed up for the event, maybe even a real suit. Maybe not. Might just do the casual thing too. Tonight when I get home, I need to call around and find out who in fact is coming, so I can prepare for it. Some people I know cant make it, others haven’t said one way or another.

A bunch of people have said I should allow fans to come at $20 per head or so, but I don’t agree with that. This is for the staff, not the fans. A chance to let the hair down and not worry about the fans. Its all about a good time tomorrow, and I plan on having one.

I had a meeting last night about the locksmith shop with my lock guru (and he truly is a guru). I hate to say it, but the meeting left me slightly aprehensive. Not on the abilities of the guru, as he is phenominal at the lock stuff, but as to the ability of the shop to make what i consider to be good money. Based on my calculations, if the locksmith was at service calls for 5 hours a day getting the hourly rate, and I don’t know if 5 hours a day is accurate, that’s $XXX a day taken in on labor. Figure an extra $30-50 in bits and pieces, and that puts us at say $XXX a day total. Take into consideration the daily incurred expenses, and that gives us how much extra each day we have in profit. I also underestimated the amount of material needed to actually go into operation. After last nights meeting, the item list damn near tripled, with more to come. Taking into consideration the initial outlay of expenses, we would need to be open and profitable for almost 2 years until just the equipment (that I know of so far, and there is certainly more) is paid for.

I need to sit down alone without distractions and spend a dedicated hour or two crunching numbers, to see where it would stand. My idea was to open the store, keep my day job until the time comes where there is enough profit from the shop to allow me to quit and go there. I don’t see that happening as quickly as I had wanted, if at all. I just need to crunch numbers to see where it ends up, that or figure out how to combine locksmithing with something else that can be done so there is a higher profit margin. Another option would be to also use the place as a retail store front for other things as well, though I have no idea what to put in there. Whatever it is would have to be damn lucrative, profitable, and sell well, otherwise I want no part of it. I hate to say it, but its true. Its all about the money anymore, and I am no exception. Time to crunch numbers I guess.

In other news, the body shop finally did something big to the wagon. I got a call to come look at it, and it was re-primered! From what he says, all he needs to do now is wet sand the car, then spray it with the correct color. That’s it! I am stoked about it, and I think I know why he is doing it now. The remainder of his payment is a hot tub. It just got cold, so now he wants it. I cant blame him, as I just filled it up myself. Its nice to have a hot tub this time of the year. It sucks the other 9 months though.

Well, that’s about all I have for now. I will see yall on the flip side.
