Happy New Year!

Happy New Year you all~!

I guess i'm getting a little terrible at posting... this is my SECOND post since the start of 2009 =P

I'm going to make it my CNY resolution to post at least once a week =)

The days have been passing by so quickly, that i'm still not convinced that Xmas was already over!! and the next thing i knew, CNY starts tomorrow!! *faints*

I'm not sure if i've got too much on my hand at work, or i'm not coping well, cos I keep getting this feeling every morning when i wake up "I though i just came home from work?" *roar*

anyway, enough about the boring work stuff! lets have a little auntie rant =P

Ever since i've moved on at work... I realised that working nearer the heartlands has made me super aunty-ish (like i'm not aunty enough)... Found out that near my workplace is DA ZONG GUO (loosely translated as Big China), where they produce handmade Nian-gao and traditional mood cakes...

*pictures ripped off google images*

I never knew that nian-gaos could be HANDMADE! All along I though that they were machine made... so I was super amused by it... Plus the fact that their nian-gaos are super soft, I had to get my hands on them! =P

Somehow or the other, i heard that they start selling the cakes at 8am in the morning and everyone could only buy 4 pieces... so... when the aunty instincts kicked in... I woke up bright and early one day and went to queue at 7.15am!!

haha, I'm pretty impressed with myself, cos when i reached, there was a relatively short queue (yes, there were even more aunty people than me) and they started to "open shop" at 7.30am! and luck was on my side, they didn't really implement the 4 per person rule that strictly (maybe cos its super early la), so I got my hands on TEN nian gaos!!!

wahaha!! as much as the nian gaos cost almost twice as much as those outside, but that sense of satisfaction was WOO-HOO!

actually, i guess I was happier when i gave most of them out as gifts to my family la... =) was super proud when they felt touched that I queued for the nian gaos for them =P

luckily i was the first one in office and no one witness such an aunty moment =P I quickly re-packed them into those nice Mooncake paper bags instead of lugging the 5 huge-ass brown paper ones and i even had time to have a leisurely breakfast... Imagine my glee (ok, i'm very bad) when we went back to the shop at lunch time to hear that it was sold out by 9.30am!

apparently, the nian-gaos take 12 hours to steam, so they will usually make / prepare them in the day (tedious process of lining the cake moulds with banana leaves and preparing the batter), steam them in the early afternoon, so that its ready by midnight, and then be ready for selling the next day! with such a tedious process, i guess it was worth every cent!

The odd thing is that I've never tasted them before (and i didn't take a picture before distributing them), but i've got 2 left waiting to be fried in egg tomorrow!! I can't wait =P

ok, enough of aunty rant!

Come tomorrow, we'll be 8 months to the wedding!!! Talk about major stress!! I'll probably do a seperate post on the wedding updates... but till then,

Gong Xi Fa Cai!
