“You know,” she said around a mouthful of pepper steak, tapping her chopsticks against the take-out carton, “you should just move in.”

He had been resting against her headboard when she said it, and he sat up sharply, nearly choking on his chicken. “W-What?”

She shifted a bit on her stomach, crossing her legs as she leaned over the foot of the bed to grab a few napkins. She held them up and he leaned forward to grab them, wiping at his chin.

“You’re over here almost every night, and you spend most weekends here,” she explained, reaching to turn the volume of the television down, “You have a bag of spare clothes for when you come over, and you do the dishes and laundry more than I do, and I live here.”

“That’s because otherwise you’d just keep buying more clothes and take-out,” he pointed out, and she snorted into her food.

“What I’m saying is, it’d just be easier. I mean, I still haven’t found another roommate since Feldt moved back home, and this place is too much for one person. Plus, you want to move out anyway don’t you? Doesn’t it suck having to deal with your brother bringing his boyfriend over all the time?” she went on, putting her carton down to pick up a different one. “Wanton?”

He shook his head. “You’re serious about this.”

She nodded. “Yeah I’m serious. It’s closer to your campus, and work, and plus, the rent is way better than what you’re paying for your dorm. Here you can actually play music past eleven pm and there’s no communal shower. Hell, if money’s the issue I’ll keep paying for the rent until you get a better job.”

“Chris, we haven’t even been dating a year,” he protested and she rolled her eyes.

“We’ve been dating eight months. There are people moving in together after a few weeks. Come on Alle, you know I wouldn’t offer if I didn’t think it’d work out.”

“I…I don’t know Chris,” he murmured and she sighed exasperatedly, getting up. “Where are you going?”

“I’m going to go take my hair down and lock the doors,” she replied, taking a few of the Chinese take-out cartons in hand before heading for the hall.

“Wait,” he moved to get up, and knocked over his own carton, “Oh shit!”

“You got garlic sauce on my duvet!” she cried, putting the boxes on her dresser before going back to the bed, “Oh damn it! It’s going to stain! Get off!” she said, pulling on the comforter.

“I’m so sorry!” he apologized, getting off the bed and doing his best to scrape the mess back into the carton, “Here, let me get it.”

“This was seventy dollars on sale,” she groaned, “You can’t buy these anymore either!”

“I’m sorry Chris, I’ll wash it,” he took the comforter in arm and moved to the hallway, “Here, let me have your keys to the washroom.”

“Are you sure you’re going to be able to get it out?” she fretted, going to the table beside the door and digging in the bowl where she put her keys, “Here it is,” she said, holding it out to him.

“I’ll get it out, I promise,” he assured her, taking the key and putting it in his pocket before taking the detergent from the hall closet. “I’ll go wash it now. It shouldn’t set and it’ll be fine.”

“I’ll come help,” she said, going to pull her shoes on, but Alle shook his head, opening the door.

“You’re in your pajamas Chris, you can’t go downstairs like that,” he reminded her, pointing to her tanktop and shorts, “I’ll be right back, okay?”

“Make sure you read the tag,” she called as he stepped into the hall, “I think it’s cold wash only.”

“I’ll take care of it,” he said again, “I’m really sorry about that.”

“Just get the stain out and I’ll forgive you,” she smiled a little, holding the door.

He smiled back. “Okay, I’ll be back in a bit.”

She closed the door and he headed for the elevator, pushing the button before shifting the blanket and detergent in his hands. The elevator chimed and slid open, and he stepped inside, the other woman already in there moving to give him space. “First floor please.”

She nodded and pushed the button, and the doors closed. He watched the digital reading of the floors for a moment before he noticed the woman staring at him and he turned to look at her.

“Doing laundry?”

“Ah, I made a mess on my girlfriend’s blanket,” he said and the woman’s face went red. “Oh! No, not that kind of mess, I spilled Chinese food on it!”

The woman only nodded, shifting her gaze to the doors. Allelujah blushed and watched the numbers slowly tick by. The woman got off at the second floor and he continued onto the first, moving down the hall to the washroom. He took Chris’ key out of his pocket and unlocked the door, stepping inside and closing the door behind him.

After rinsing off the stain in the sink, he paid the fee then put the comforter in the washer along with some of the detergent. He set the cycle and pulled out one of the chairs from the table that was set up, taking out his phone.

“What?” Hallelujah greeted with a grunt, obviously just woken up.

“It’s me,” Allelujah said and he heard Hallelujah snort.

“I can read caller ID,” Halle commented, and Allelujah heard shuffling on the other line, “What’s up?”

“Chris asked me to move in with her,” he said and he could hear the surprise in Hallelujah’s voice as he replied.

“Shit. Just now?”

“Yeah,” Alle nodded, “I…I don’t know if I should or not.”

“Damn, what the hell is wrong with you?” Halle scoffed, “Any normal guy would be itching to move in with their hot, older, and very well paid girlfriend. What, is it a money issue or something? How much does she pay for rent?”

“No, it’s not that, I mean, she even offered to keep paying the full rent until I got a better job,” he explained and Hallelujah made a loud noise.

“Holy fuck, what’s wrong with you? She’s offering for you to move in, rent-free and everything, and you don’t know? You’d get sex every day, maybe even a couple times a day, you’d get a nice fucking place, and those aren’t enough perks for you? Shit, are you some weird ass, hard to please guy.”

“Are you saying you want me to move in with her?”

“Holy shit yes. Damn, if I could move in with Zexion, I’d be gone in as much time as it took me to pack my toothbrush. Go, move out, that just means I don’t have to hear you bitching when I bring Zexion over.”

“Thanks for looking out for my best interests,” Alle muttered and Halle scoffed.

“Hey, I’m just saying it like it is. Besides, really, I don’t see what’s wrong with it. I mean, you like her enough right? Love her and all that shit? And where the hell are you? I’m getting all kinds of feedback.”

“Oh, I’m in the washroom,” he explained and Halle started laughing. “What?”

“You’re even a fucking housewife. I don’t know why the hell you called me for. I mean, come on, do you really not know if you want to move in with her? It’s a simple question.”

“It’s not though,” Allelujah argued, “It’s more than wanting to or not, it’s wither or not it’s a good idea.”

“Tell me, what are the downsides to this?” Halle challenged, and Alle was at a loss for words. “Exactly. So finish washing her undies and go tell her you’re moving in. You can pick your shit up off the curb tomorrow morning.”

Allelujah made a noise of protest. “Hey! I never said I was going to move in! And I’m washing her duvet, not her underwear.”

“…What the fuck is a duvet? Some kind of kinky outfit?”

“It’s a…nevermind,” Allelujah sighed, “And I’m still not sure about this.”

“Of course you’re not,” Hallelujah agreed, “You never are until things work out and then you can’t say anything. So just sit back and let it work out.”

“Why do I even bother talking to you?” Allelujah sighed, “I might as well argue with myself.”

“Yeah, but I answer back,” Hallelujah snickered. “Oh, Zexion’s out of the shower. Remember to pick up your shit before the city does,” he said in parting, ending the call with a click.

Allelujah sighed and put his phone back in his pocket. The washer beeped and he moved to take it out of the washer, putting a few more quarters in the dryer before placing the blanket in there. He had just turned it on when his phone rang.

“Did the stain come out?” Chris asked when he picked up, and he made an affirmative noise.

“Yes, it came out.”

“Oh good,” Chris was obviously relieved, “Thank you Alle.”

“It’s alright, it was my fault in the first place,” he shrugged and she chuckled.

“Is it drying now?”

“Yes. It’ll probably take another half hour.”

“Alright, I guess I’ll just wait,” she sighed, “I’ll talk to you when--”

“Ah, Chris,” he interrupted, and she made an inquiring noise, “About…moving in…”

“Alle, if you really don’t want to, then just don’t,” she sighed, apparently done with the topic, “I’m not going to beg and plead, or try to force you. You don’t want to, so-”

“N-No, I’m…I’m saying yes,” he interjected again, and Chris went silent. “Chris?”

“Yes you’re moving in?”

“Yes, I’m moving in.”

Chris yelled loudly into the phone and Alle had to yank it away from his ear. Chris laughed, and apologized.

“Sorry! This is just great! Aw man, I’m so excited! We’ll have to set up a day where we can go get your stuff. Most of your furniture belongs to the dorm, right?”

“Yes,” he said and Chris began humming in thought.

“Then it’ll just be mostly clothes. Hmm, I’ll have to see if I have any space left in Feldt’s closet…Oh, do you want your own room, or do you want to bed with me? If you don’t, we’ll have to go get another bed, since Feldt took hers home with her.”

“Do we have to talk about all of this now?” he asked, flushing a bit, “Can’t it wait until I’m at least back in the apartment?”

“Oh, right, sorry!” Chris laughed again, “Sure thing. Alle, I love you.”

He smiled. “I love you too.”

“Ah, I gotta call Feldt!” Chris squealed excitedly, “This is just great! I’ll talk to you in a bit Alle.”

“Alright,” he nodded, “Bye.”

“Bye!” Chris echoed, “Oh shit, I forgot the bath was running!”

He laughed and turned off the phone, putting it in his pocket, and taking out her keys. He thumbed through them before getting to her house key, turning it back and forth between his fingers. He was going to have to get a duplicate made.
