I really need some shoes for choir concerts. I've kept an eye out for the better part of a year, but haven't found anything in regular retail sources that fits my criteria and wasn't totally bland.
Dance Shoes Online is where I got my 1920s-esque shoes for the robe de style. Among their many options, I can find things that meet all of my criteria:
* Solid black, no rhinestones
* Heel less than 2.5"
* Closed toe (in case I wear black hose)
* Reasonably comfortable for both standing and for hauling equipment (no "special occasion" shoes)
* Interesting details
* Overall pretty, feminine effect
* Not too obviously trendy (no huge block heels, no super pointy toes as much as I like them)
In addition to fitting all these requirements, DSO offers
heel options. I've narrowed down to these 3 shoes, all of which have the 2.2" (2899) heel (red, top row far right). It's a basic slender heel, not as small as a stiletto, and ever so slightly French. Also, the straps have a neat hook which keeps the look and adjustability of a buckle, but is a lot easier to put on.
My three options (the pictures are links, showing more photos):
1. T-strap. (I think this picture has the 2.2 heel.) Combined patent leather, "sparkle" (which looks fairly subtle), and mesh. (I love mesh.)
What I like: Lots of interesting detail, especially when looking down from above, with the curving lines and the T-strap. Different kinds of shine with the sparkle and patent.
2. Ankle strap, same mixture of materials: patent, sparkle, and mesh.
What I like: More mesh overall, and slightly more foot showing. More tailored, and interesting look with the contrast of the patent toe cap and curving sparkle and mesh.
3. Wrap across straps, black satin and mesh. I think this example demonstrates a 2.75 heel, so try to disregard that.
What I like: Big windows of mesh and lots of curving lines. Very feminine.
For what it's worth, my feet are on the slender side and these styles should all look good. The relative price isn't a factor. What do you like best? I like all of them, so I'd love your opinions.
