i don't know where this came from.

And I don’t expect you to understand the way I feel
Just as I don’t expect to grasp how it is you deal
But Africa … Africa take me home, take me heart and find a home
Amoung your colors, your laughters ,your tear
Find me places and spaces
Draw near

Africa, though far away
My minds eye
Draw closer with each passing day
Find me here
Surrounded now
By loud and consuming
Unspeakable sounds
The sounds of “progress” grand and green

But what about the humans in between.

You do not roar, oh Africa, or not like here
War, the cry of the heart, the fear
But not consumed by self
By self loving addictions
Nacacistic, egotistical maniacs
Full of greed

Take my hand, let us go and see

Let me hear your earth
Your stories
Your soul
Let me see the hand of God is every
Inch and tell

Tell me how you have survived
Show me the resilient heart which beats
Deep inside the red earth

Still hearts of young men, doomed from birth
The dice rolled against them and now there they lay
Yet you still rise, each and every day
Africa Africa

Show us the way
Take us from our engrossed minds
Consumed by every form of pride
Show me, oh Africa for I want to see
The beauty of my fellow
Human being

I long to learn, to breath, to know
How, when in the earth below your feet,
You know so many have suffered defeat
And yet you dance the dance of joy
Looking towards a brighter morn
A day when life will not be known
By the number of children without homes

Identity is not the TV screen

The rhythm of your soil
In your feet
The understanding of life
Through African eyes
Will show you a world deep inside

A place where the face is not the color you see
A world where all can be family

Take me in, oh continent unknown
Do not let me take
Any other home.
