It took two days and some very sore shoulders and arms, but the backsplash is done.

Wall two:
I used 3x6" ceramic tiles laid in the subway pattern. I fell in love with the 1" glass tiles a few years ago, but didn't want to spend $20 a square foot to do the entire back splash in them. Then I saw an article in a magazine about using accent tiles in a subway design, so I could use the tiles I loved but just a few of them.
I tried the traditional adhesive, but the coarse graininess of it made the tiles really hard to lay. I got a few feet done and wasn't happy. The glass tiles weren't laying well. I went back to the home improvement store and they showed me a new product. It's like giant double sided tape. I applied sheets of it to the walls, then laid the tiles directly on the product. The tiles went up fast. The product has to be grouted immediately, so rather than wait several days before that task, I got it all done in two days.
By the way, I'm on my annual layoff this week. I'm technically a 'temporary' employee, and have been for eight years now; so I have to have a weeklong layoff every year. Usually I use the week to take a little vacation, but this year it's serious housework! I did take a couple of hours yesterday to enjoy a leisurely lunch with
mollywheezy . Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go price flooring...
