Finally!

Aug 24, 2010 20:21

It took all summer, but the kitchen window is finally in!  I ordered it on the 23 of May.  After many phone calls and a vacation by the installer, the window was delivered on the 19 of July.  It didn't fit.  So it was 'rush' ordered with promise of immediate installation as soon as it arrived.  A couple of days later the store let me know the new window would be delivered on 19 August.  So Thursday morning I called the store.  At first they said 'no, it's not here', then a fellow said 'oh, look, here it is.  I didn't realize it'd be in a box.'  Then I started calling about the installation.  Finally yesterday I called the store manager (this is one of those big box home improvement stores) and explained my situation.  Finally, yesterday afternoon the installation manager called and said the installers would be here first thing in the morning.  They arrived on time (8 am) and the work began.  At one point they had to leave to get a trim saw and some window trim (why would they have come without?).  They finally finished at 2:15 this afternoon.  All for one little window!!

But it's in and it looks nice.  It's one of those that will tilt out of it's frame to clean, so no more climbing on a ladder to clean the outside.

Now that it's in I can start tiling the back splash.  When Hubby gets back from Hawaii he'll finish up the cabinet doors.  I've ordered the glass for the upper cupboards.  I lined all the shelves this week and moved all the dishes and pots and pans back into their new homes.  Even without the doors it looks nice and neat.  We're on the homestretch.

With 40 quarts of spaghetti sauce and 25 pints of salsa and tomatoes still coming it, I decided to try something I'd not done before.  I made tomato sauce.  Just plain, thick tomato sauce that's a good base for things like my barbecue sauce.  It takes a heck of a lot of tomatoes to get a bit of sauce.  Here's the result of over 20 pounds of tomatoes.  These are half pint jars.

By the way, thank you to everyone on here and on Facebook for the birthday wishes!
