but i'll get to that later.
Last night, went to the wave to watch football with jeff, ryan, ryan, phil, andy and scott. Although the bigscreen was cool, I must admit I was a bit bored. I felt a little like i was invading on an ages-old male tradition. Even the menus said "guys night out". Anyway I'm not a huge fan of scott and andy, and besides i was sitting at the front of the table, so in order to see the tv, i had to be facing away from the guys.. hence.. i wasn't talkin to them all that much. To make matters worse, the raiders were getting clobbered, and the game was getting pretty boring. I prefer watching football when the game is a lot closer. Anyway, the chairs were uncomfortable and my contacts were bothering me. All of that added up, equaled me leaving with Jeff at the half and semi-watching the rest of the game at home. Don't think I'll go to the wave again.
Today... i have NO idea how i managed to drag myself out of bed to go to the gym. Had I not have been going with christine, i dont think i would have gone. Later, she admitted the same to me. Anyhow, we made it to the gym, and I had a good workout, surprisingly. I felt much better afterwards... came home and threw on some sweats and grabbed my wallet (yes, i was driving without it.. whoops) so I could make it to crappy tire to buy an air mattress and still have time to get ready for my 12:00 class. Anyway, got home at 11:15 and figured I didnt' have time for a shower, so i hustled up to class to find out it was CANCELLED. That was good.. because i hate that class, especially when it's 2 hours on tuesday (as opposed to only one on thursday), but b-a-d because i really could have used a shower. Anyway i sat in lucy's and read until my 2:00, after which i went to the kin undergrad office to find some info on the ontario graduate scholarship. I found the booklet, and while i was flipping through it, some broad was like "hey, there's an info session for the OGS like, now." So i went to it, 40 minutes late, only to have any hopes of actually winning this scholarship CRUSHED TO A BLOODY PULP. When i first heard about it from Tracy, it sounded much more attainable. But today gave me an entirely different idea. The 2 reference letters both have to be from profs, and they have to rate you (in top 2%, in top 5%, in top 10%, etc, etc) on things like, research ability, research potential, oral and written work, background preparation, etc. My problem is that none of my classes have been taught in a manner that would provide my profs with a good enough estimation of where my abilities would lie. For the most part, they've been multiple choice exams, or shit like that. But no independent research projects or anything. Ridiculous. I talked to the OGS rep after the meeting and she said that they're sympathetic to that, they understand that undergrad students won't have as much research experience, etc, as say a masters or a phd student. But still, my god. I have no fucking chance! I'm still going to apply just in case there's some little fluke, because such a fluke could be worth $15000, but i'm not going to count on it.
I just emailed my injuries prof, asking him to write me a reference letter for my PT applications when the time comes. I sort of had to justify why i was asking him though, because he's only been my prof for a couple weeks. I really hope he agrees to write it, because I know i can kick ass in this class, and besides, the small class and lab component provide a much better forum for him to start to see my strengths and weaknesses. Hopefully mostly strengths. :D
*praying to the reference letter gods for Garry to agree to my request*
goodnight!
