You Say It's Your Birthday....
Yes my friends, today is my birthday. I'm 22 and I don't care. Is this really it? Is the excitement gone forever from birthdays already? Oh well. I'm going out to dinner tonight with my family to celebrate and i got out of TA'ing early so that's not a bad gig. Haven't gotten any presents yet and maybe that's what's keeping me from being all WOOHOO!! BIRTHDAY!!
Since the last update, I've pretty much just been dying. I went to work one Saturday and suddenly stopped being able to breathe and swallow and then that deteriorated into being unable to be awake for more than 20 minutes which moved into bad headaches, dizziness and fuzzy vision. So, 13 vials of blood and one MRI later, they came back Tuesday with the conclusion (brace yourself)... I have lyme disease. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the once thought viral pneumonia->EB->viral menangitis was all caused by a little deertick that bit me when I wasn't looking and stuck on for >36 hours and gave me the Lymey. South Carolina apparently had only 20-30 reported cases for the whole of last year but I managed to beat the odds and catch it in the metropolis that is Columbia. The only times I can remember being outside were when I helped with a field trip to a creekbed at a state park and when I played football on a Sunday (the broken finger day). If only I was so good at beating probability when it came to something good like the lottery. Then I'd be set. But no, I only win against the house when it involves ticks and the pathogens they carry.
On the positive side, I got a call yesterday telling me I got the Knauss Fellowship which is FREAKING AWESOME! Not only did I get it, I got the legislative branch! They take about 40-50 fellows a year from the nation and only 10 get to be in the legislative branch so woohoo!
