A full week since the last update. I'm slipping.
Today I walked into the cafe to get myself some lunch and came around the corner just in time to see the door to the kitchen swing shut. If I walked quickly and quietly, I could get behind the cafe server and hopefully get her to jump. I walked up just as she walked inside the refrigerator and leaped in front of the door just as she was coming out.
"Wraa!"
She did not jump. No, she stared at me, frozen in her tracks, and let out a scream of absolute terror. I truly believe I could not have frightened her more had I leaped out with a dripping butcher knife. I expected someone to run into the kitchen and accuse me of attacking the poor girl, but I suppose the scream went unheard or ignored. I felt true remorse and apologized profusely for the next fifteen minutes.
Yet I laughed then, and I laugh now. I'm simply amazed that I could feel so bad and laugh so hard.
I'm sure that as my Mom reads the story above, she'll be reminded of an evening about a decade ago. She was in her bedroom, and I decided to give her a scare. I grabbed the Nintendo gun, hid around the door, and when I heard her coming through the door, I jumped out and pointed the gun at her.
"Freeze!"
Thwap! My Mom had instantly leaped back and hit the gun back into my surprised face. I don't know if I've purposefully scared her since, but I know that if I did, I would have kept my distance and still probably thought twice about it.
