Writer's Block: Cute Meet
My parents.
New Year's Eve, 1963. Yeah, late December :-) they are set up for a blind date by mutual friends. However, BOTH of them ditch their blind date and go to a different club. Yes, they independently end up at the same club.
My dad says he asked my mom to dance because she was smiling. So they dance. Mom mentions that she's divorced with two boys and a girl. Dad says he's also divorced with two boys and a girl, and similar ages. Mom says she's got one older sister and lots of younger siblings; same with Dad. Both born in the same year. Then mom says what high school she went to, Palo Alto, which is nicknamed "Pally." Dad thinks she said "Poly" which was his school, Polytechnic, and Mom cries shenanigans and walks off the dance floor. Dad follows, shows his drivers license to prove his birthdate, shows pics of his kids, and spends half an hour trying to convince her he wasn't just making stuff up to BS her.
And that's why there was a second date. And later a wedding. And still later, me :-)
