open letter to those guys on Ebay

Dear Guy #1: I left you a negative because while you mentioned the "small tear" on the back of the book (which was actually 1/3 of the back cover missing, btw) you failed to mention that the entire book was massively water damaged and that every. single. page. was stuck together. In a glossy book with lots of pictures, that means that you cannot unstick the pages without tearing them. The fact that the package it arrived in was pristine and had no water damage on the outside tells me that the damage occurred prior to shipping. Also your "no returns" policy means you probably knew someone would be unhappy about it but gambled that they wouldn't neg you into the ground, not over a $25 used game book.

You gambled wrongly, sir. Kiss your 100% rating goodbye.

Dear Guy #2: I left a neutral for you because while you went to great lengths to say that the game played "great" despite a few scratches (and to your credit the game itself played beautifully) you completely neglected to mention what the scratches DID ruin: the (optional) full animation opening sequence, which not only stalls about 10 seconds into it but forces you to reboot the Playstation if you attempt to play the opening. And if it automatically triggers the opening when you start the game (if you don't hit "continue" or "new game" first thing it will automatically play) you still have to reboot; there is no way around it and no way to see it. The fact that you gushed about "the game itself plays great" several times, in such specific language, leads me to suspect mightily that you did not fail to notice this slight flaw but gambled that your clever circumlocutional misdirection would cover your ass in a "but I never mentioned the opening animation, I said the game plays great and it does, so what's the problem?" kind of way.

You also gambled wrongly. But I point out that the only reason I didn't neg you into the dirt was because the game still played excellently. But I paid $70 for a product whose one minor yet important fault you failed to mention. So kiss your 100% rating goodbye as well, but thank the gamemaster of your choice that it's only a neutral. Seriously.
