my publisher just got me angry

Jul 16, 2010 11:54

reposted from my other blogs, because the fail is just so... ginormous...

(disclaimer: I knew what I was getting into when I self published PauC instead of submitting it to a "real" publisher waaay back in 2000. I did not go into this blindly. I just finally reached my bullshit meter. A lesson for anyone else wishing to submit to a POD -- if you do it, do it with eyes open and trust none of them)

Thanks, however I am not about to call you and get upsold services I do not want. Any messages you have, unless they are sales messages, can be relayed through this email address. If they are sales messages, kindly refrain from sending them. I've wasted enough money with this company and am not about to throw more money after it.

Hello Ms. Harris,

I wish there was something I could say to pacify your hurt feelings. But seriously, you need to take time to ponder about what you have done so far to market your book because I don’t see anything about it that’s remotely significant or serious.

The authors that have made significant strides in promoting their book rightly deserve what they reap because they take action instead of complaining and blaming others for their failure.

We are here to help but if you don’t like our gesture, we will as you say, kindly refrain from doing it.

However, we are here to serve everyone without prejudice so we will continue to be available to you in case you’ll need our help someday.

With kind regards.

translation: you're a slacker and you deserve to fail unless you let me sell you services, you loser.

Wow, your letter is awesome in its fail. I will be sharing this with the rest of the class.

I've been thinking of changing publishers for a couple of years now, ever since the terrible service I got on the third volume and the amateurish "marketing tools" I received for my trouble which I could have made myself with a demo version of Photoshop 3. The service from this company when I started this project used to be incredible. It still is, but in a whole other version of the word -- and not the good one.

Your letter has made the decision easier. I will be withdrawing my three volumes from IUniverse and republishing them in new editions elsewhere.

Thanks for the input!

... so, any other writers want to be told they're butthurt because it's their own fault their book is not a bestseller and they're stupid for not paying tons of money to get support from their publisher for services that they can do themselves FOR FREE? Anyone? Bueller?

fail, you suck, pauc, are you kidding me?!, books, i hate salesmen
