Counting Tears, 3: Hope
DBSK's Junsu, Micky, and Jaejoong will have their first hearing regarding their situation with SM Entertainment on the 21st. An appeal to the courts to suspend the exclusive contract between DBSK and SM Entertainment was made (by DBSK) and if by chance the exclusive contract suspension does not go through, the 3 members will leave the group. Furthermore, it is being speculated that the two members who did not partake in the appeal, Yunho and Changmin, will walk a separate path with three new members.

Jaejoong, Yoochun, and Junsu have been with their lawyers from the butt-crack of dawn multiplied by an Eternity, plus a healthy dose of 4-eh-ver. With their trial date set, Time has gained the uncanny ability to move tortuously slow and frighteningly quick all at once. There's not enough of it to feel properly prepared, yet they all wish it was already over. They stagger through the front door of DBSK's apartment, kicking off shoes, and shuffling down the hallway into the living room, where Changmin greets them with a wave from the couch, Sony Vaio in his lap.
Junsu and Yoochun drop down on either side of him, heads simultaneously hitting opposite shoulders, eyes closing and lips mumbling about legal jargon and "Ow, ow, Changminnie, my head hurts." Jaejoong goes strait to his room and comes out a few minutes later in a more comfortable change of clothes, deciding to cook his stress out. Changmin seconds that idea with a smile and a thumbs-up in his eldest hyung's direction.
The only sounds heard after that are the clanging of pots and Jaejoong’s voice humming Beyonce from the kitchen, accompanied by the tap-tap-tapping of Changmin’s fingers moving across his keyboard and Yoosu's even breathing. Thirty blissful minutes later and suddenly Changmin stiffens, triceps flexing beneath the sleeves of his t-shirt as he closes his laptop, stands, and excuses himself to the bathroom. Yoochun and Junsu go tumbling into each other, but they're too tired to worry over their dongsaeng's abrupt departure. They close their eyes again, searching more for rest than actual sleep, just somewhere peaceful to let their minds drift to for a few minutes more.
Junus is the first to notice that Changmin still hasn't returned, but only after Jaejoong sets dishes on the table and calls for them to come and eat.
"Where's Changminnie?"
Yoochun looks around, looks at his watch, looks down the hall. "Is he still in the bathroom?"
"The bathroom?" Jaejoong repeats, walking over to them. He exchanges a look with the two men on the couch.
"Aw, frick." Yoochun curses under his breath, and all three of them make a beeline for the bathroom.
"Changminnie!" Jaejoong knocks on the door loudly. "Dinner's ready."
...
"I'll be there in a minute." Changmin finally answers.
Jaejoong sighs, because he recognizes the strain in Changmin’s tone. They all do. When they do finally manage to get Changmin out of the bathroom, it's going to be a disaster area, Jaejoong’s sure. He turns to Yoochun and mouths, "What happened?"
"I don't know." Yoochun whispers back. "He was on his laptop then...his laptop!"
"Ill get it!" Junsu promises, already sprinting away. He comes back with Changmin’s laptop in his arms, already opening the top, the screen flickering to life as he reaches Jaejoong and Yoochun.
It’s a news article…depending, of course, on one’s definition of “news.”
“Those bastards!” Yoochun growls, soft features hardening into something dark and feral. “This has SME written all over it.”
“That - that’s not true!” Junsu declares angrily, reading over the article again. “Changminnie and Yunho-hyung would never!”
Jaejoong knocks on the bathroom door once more. “Changminnie, we knew they’d do something like this, remember? We all talked about the possibility.”
“I know,” Changmin responds, voice barely audible through the bathroom door, “but…”
But Jaejoong knows the reality is always so much worse than the imagining.
“What if…others believe it?”
What if the fans believe it? Changmin doesn’t say it like that, but it’s exactly what he means.
Jaejoong doesn’t know if it’s because Changmin started off as the least popular among DBSK, but the youngest has always been the most aware of the fact that it is the fans that make them, and the fans that can break them. They have all been witness to that fact over the years.
The sound of the front door opening and closing echoes through the apartment and soon Yunho comes dragging down the hallway, pausing curiously at JaeYooSu loitering outside of the bathroom.
“What’s going on?”
Jaejoong snatches the laptop out of Junsu’s grasp and hooks a thumb at the bathroom door, staring at Yunho. “Appa-yah,” he orders, “get your son out of the bathroom.”
There are times when Jaejoong thinks he can’t possibly love Yunho any more than he does in that very moment, but then Yunho tilts his head at a certain angle, or laughs in a certain pitch, or simply nods in agreement - despite the fact that he looks dead on his feet from another 18-hour day of filming - and complies with Jaejoong’s wishes without ever asking why. Then the walls of Jaejoong’s heart stretch a little bit more, allows room for another burst of love for the tall man in front of him, always just enough to prove him wrong.
He turns back to the living room with Yoochun and Junsu trailing after him. They all trust Yunho to handle the task Jaejoong has set before him without their help, even if the leader has to break the bathroom door down.
“Hyung, what are you doing?” Junsu asks as he and Yoochun lean over the back of the couch to watch Jaejoong’s hands fly over the laptop’s keyboard.
“Looking for something.” Jaejoong answers distractedly. He hits search and there it is. Links and links to fanvids from all over the world, and all of them in support of DBSK. He smiles.
Forever Five.
Sometimes Jaejoong feels like DBSK’s fans can be mischievous and slightly vexing (*cough* Yunjae fanfic *cough*), and sometimes their fans can be possessive, stalkerish, and just downright crazy. But sometimes…most of the time, DBSK’s fans make Jaejoong damn proud to be their idol.
Yunho comes walking into the living room then, hand in hand with Changmin. Changmin’s cheeks are stained pink with embarrassment, looking every bit like the maknae he is, but rarely ever behaves as.
“Perfect timing.” Jaejoong smiles over at them. “Come here, dongsaeng.”
Jaejoong gets up from his seat and lets Changmin take his place on the couch. Yunho settles in by the younger man’s side as Jaejoong places the computer onto Changmin’s lap.
“What is this?” Changmin wonders, staring at the screen.
“This is what our fans believe of us. Hit play.” Jaejoong says, going behind the couch with Yoochun and Junsu, leaning over Yunho’s head as Changmin taps his mouse pad to play the first video Jaejoong has set up.
Only five videos later and they’re already a little amazed and a lot humbled by the outpouring of such love and support from their fans.
“Hope to the end.” Changmin reads off of the end credits from another fanvid. “Just like your tattoo, Jaejoong-hyung.” His voice wavers dangerously on the observation.
Jaejoong, Yoochun, and Junsu all want to reach out and touch him, but they don’t, because they all understand that Changmin is so much more fragile than he ever lets on. That kind of gesture, in this kind of situation, just might break him.
Instead they reach for each other; Yoochun slipping a protective arm around Junsu’s waist, tugging the tenor closer, as much to comfort himself as Junsu. And Jaejoong reaches for Yunho, hooks an arm around the leader’s neck, while his free hand comes up to sketch the letters…
…H…o…p…e…t…o…t…h…e…E…n…d…
…along the clothed stretch of space between Yunho’s shoulder blades, in mimicry of the ideology etched into his own skin.
“What was that, Min?” Yunho commands, doing what the other three wouldn’t dare (because Yunho just doesn’t know how to NOT dominate a circumstance physically), sticking a hand out and ruffling Changmin’s hair furiously.
“Hope to the end.” Changmin says again, ducking away from Yunho’s teasing.
“What? What?” Yunho’s reach is long and unmerciful, tickling at Changmin’s sides now, while the younger man attempts to squirm away.
“Hope to the end!” Changmin shouts, laughter already bubbling over.
Yoochun and Junsu soon join in the fun, never wanting to be left out when torturing Changmin is under way. Yunho lets them take over, turning in Jaejoong’s arms to face the lead singer. He grins at Jaejoong all puppy-dog eager, like, see, I did what you told me to, now where’s my treat?
Jaejoong can hear the younger three in the background, Yoosu on replay, “What? What? What?” And Changmins’s breathless cries of, “Hope to the end! Hope to the end!”
Jaejoong presses his forehead to Yunho’s in helpless adoration and believes it.
Posting the last part of What We're Not right now, because I know I could use the fluff after all of this drama.
