The second most famous Serbian assassin in Europe was sentenced today for the murder of Swedish Foreign Minister Anna Lindh. According to the article, his sentence is life (which in Sweden usually means 15 years). Seems a bit short to me, but that wasn't the strange part ( Read more... )

but that piddling amount may mean that this is for the immediate economic damage of his deed.
Some legal systems might refuse to put any amont of monetary value to a human life while at the same time being precise in the amount of economic damage done to the survivors.

Presumably, since the compensation was paid to her bereaved husband and sons, it was for economic damages. It just struck me as rather low, though I confess that I don't know what ministerial salaries are like in Sweden.

The fact that a life sentence usually means only 15 years in prison concerned me, too.

wow! only 15 years after a crime like that, somehow that doesn't seem like nearly enough consitering all that her family lost.

Welcome! It's quite alright, and I hope it's alright with you if I add you back. I've only met Ed once in New Orleans this past November, but he struck me as a very nice guy.
