CHARACTER INFO
CHARACTER NAME: Yuna
SERIES: FFX/FFX-2
RESERVED: No
WISHLIST: Tegu
PERSONALITY:

QUIET: Partially, her silence is a way to keep her guard up and her plans to herself. Partially, it's just to be polite (which she is, sometimes almost painfully so). When she does speak, however, she tends to be very articulate as if she's thought very carefully about what she planned to say. She's also good for that one speech (or concert) that rallies the people. Of course, her quietness can be shaken out of her by a strong emotion and thanks to Tidus, she's taken to screaming whenever she's too frustrated for words.

HONEST: Not that Yuna has never been honest before her spherehunting adventures, but only recently has she truly been able to speak her mind. While she is still arguably guarded at times, more often than not she'll admit to something she personally desires, be it a sphere or a blitzball player. Her crowning moment of honesty was directed to Nooj, who wanted to sacrifice himself to save Spira. She outright told him “I don't like your plan. It sucks.” Perhaps the most brutally honest she's ever been (and the most brutally honest example), but it was necessary and kept him alive.

SELFLESS: To be willing to sacrifice her life for a pilgrimage should be enough of an indicator that Yuna thinks of herself last and others first. Fortunately, the word 'selfless' has lost its extreme meaning to her; now if a threat to Spira emerges, she tries to find ways to saves everyone, including herself. Still, that doesn't mean that the safety of the people of Spira aren't a weakness to her post-pilgrimage and will do anything she can in order to keep them united.

HOPEFUL: Above all else, Yuna is driven by hope. If she believes in something, she believes without a single hint of doubt. Of course, this can lead her to trouble if she believes in the wrong thing. She has also remarked on wanting to be Spira's Ray of Light and smiles to keep people's hope's high.

STUBBORN: To a fault. Yuna is an extremely driven young woman, as can be seen in both her pilgrimage and her sphere-seeking. On the one hand, it's a blessing; she's determined to finish anything she starts as successfully as she can. On the other hand, this one track-mindedness has made it very difficult to dissuade her from doing anything she hasn't set her heart to, even if its dangerous. Fortunately, she usually tries to set her heart to anything she honestly thinks will be good for everyone.

“No Regrets”: It's a trademark line of hers but it also establishes exactly how she lives her life. This means no matter how crazy, desperate, or passionate her choices may seem on the surface, she's thought hard before acting upon it. This being said, she absolutely refuses to make decisions that she would doubt making in retrospect.

TIMELINE: FFX-2 Chapter 5, Normal Ending, but with the in-game choices that would lead toward a Good/Perfect Ending.
BACKGROUND:

Part I

Yuna was born in Bevelle, though she does not recall any fond memories from being there. It may be due to the fact that her parents had committed a high treason with their marriage, she being a part of the Al Bhed "heathen" race and passing away shortly after Yuna's birth. It may also be due to her father, who brought the Calm with Sin's destruction, sacrificed his life and any chance of getting to know his daughter past the age of seven. While Yuna harbored no ill-will toward the city, she's not keen on visiting.

Kimarhi Ronso is the one who took seven-year old Yuna away from Bevelle and to Isle of Besaid, which she considered to be her home. There, she grew up with Lulu, Wakka, and Chappu, who passed away after an non-Yevon based operation against Sin. The former two as well as Kimarhi later become Yuna's first three guardians after she began her Summoner's Training. It was something her friends tried to persuade her out of, as summoners who defeat Sin die. However, she was adamant and they decided to support her instead. The day she earned her first aeon, she was greeted by a young man named Tidus. He became Yuna's guardian due to her wanting him to be around, as she tells Wakka. Auron, her fifth guardian, was the legendary guardian for High Summoner Braska, her own father. Finally, Rikku joined the group and after a short talk ("Girls Only, boys wait over there~!"), the summoner and the young Al Bhed realized they are maternal cousins.

Yuna's pilgrimage, or quest against Sin, involved her to go from temple to temple and pray to the fayth to give her the power to summon the aeon residing within. Being the daughter of a High Summoner made her notorious during her travels, catching the eye of Seymour Guado, Maester of Yevon and Macalania temple. He offered his hand in marriage, telling her and her guardians that it will be a political affair to unite the peoples of Spira. However, a sphere recording of Lord Seymour's father, Maester Jyscal's last will and testament proved otherwise. Yuna hid this from her friends, preferring to deal with Lord Seymour alone. She accepted his marriage proposal under the pretenses that she agreed with his surface motives. But after claiming her fourth aeon in Macalania with Lord Seymour, she and her guardians confront him. When he had admitted to the murder and attacked them, they killed him. The party was then chased out of the temples only to fall under the Macalania's ice.

After Sin attacked Macalania, Yuna was separated from her guardians. She had been abducted by the Guado, who brought her to The Palace of St. Bevelle, where they sought her to be the unsent Lord Seymour's bride. Though she accepted again, her original plan was still to send him, which unfortunately failed. Her guardians arrive to save her, only to find themselves in a life or death predicament of their own. Claiming that she will throw herself off the balcony if they aren't safe, she fell backward and was saved by Valefor, her aeon. The summoner and her guardians were then tried for high treason and sentenced to Via Purifico where they escape, but not before Yuna claimed her last aeon. At this point, she was ready to defeat Sin.

At the same time, Yuna learned of the backward teachings of Yevon, their will not to send the dead high clerics of the religion, and the use of machina for which they scorned the Al Bhed. Yuna's faith in Yevon shattered, but her drive to save the people of Spira persisted, despite being not only an outlaw but excommunicated. Tidus almost swayedher opinion in the Macalania moonlight and pyrefly-filled waters to join him and let someone else take the burden of being a summoner. At the last moment, Yuna realized she can't do that and continued her journey.

Crossing the Calm Lands and traversing up Mount Gagazet, the party faced Seymour for a third time and learn that he had slain Kimarhi's people, the guardians of Zanarkand, after they had barricaded his way up the mountain pass. The group defeated him again and entered the Zanarkand Ruins. It is a pivotal moment for Yuna and the last chance to leave her pilgrimage. She pressed on.

Inside the ruins, Yuna met the unsent Lady Yunalesca, who announced that Yuna will not be the only one sacrificed, but one of her guardians as well. In doing so, that guardian will become the next Sin. Against the prospect of harming one of her guardians, Yuna decided to fight Yunalesca. With her sent, the secrets of the Final Aeon (which becomes Sin) had been sealed away. Yuna was forced to find a new way to kill Sin and end the cycle of suffering on Spira.

Tearing into Sin might seem brutal, but it was the best option given the circumstances. Within the hollow insides, the party faced Seymour for the last time, who had absorbed himself in order to become one with Sin and its destruction. Defeating him, Yuna finally sent him to the Farplane and prepared themselves against Sin.

Sin, however, was not the final battle. Afloat on Sin's sword, Yuna had to summon all of her aeons and watch each of them be possessed by Yu Yevon, the father of Yunalesca and the corrupt spirit that both causes the Final Aeon and decays it into Sin. With each aeon summoned, Yuna was forced to slay them. It's a painful process for the summoner, who relied on them for her journey. Finally, Yuna and her guardians kill Yu Yevon. Sin can return to Spira no more.

But at a price. She learned that Tidus was a dream of the fayth, the same entities that aided her summoning and became her aeons. With the aeons gone and the fayth ready to wake, Tidus was forced to leave Spira and fade away, but not without an "I love you/thank you*" from the former summoner.

*I love you - English translation of the game
*Thank you - Japanese original in-game speech

Part II

Now a celebrity in her own right and not just 'Daughter of High Summoner Braska', Yuna returned to Besaid a hero. However, many people began to believe that the young High Summoner should think about getting married. Yuna was saved by Rikku and indirectly by Kimahri (once again) by a sphere the Ronso had found depicting a man that looked like Tidus. Deciding that this is more important than marriage as well as wanting a new adventure for herself, Yuna set off with her little cousin.

Rikku led Yuna to an Airship called 'The Celsius' in which Yuna became a member of the Gullwings, a spherehunter group created as a reaction to Yevon's disbanding in the hopes of finding Spira's true history. A change of attire as well as scenery and Yuna became more free spirited, made friends with Paine, a fellow spherehunter, and became closer to Rikku. Together, they became all girl group YuRiPa (YRP).

There were multiple factions sprouting up in Spira as well, all hunting for spheres as the need to delve into Spira's past had become a craze. Yuna believed that while the Eternal Calm seemed stable, the factions were dividing Spira.

The sphere Kimarhi found led the girls onto a completely different path than expected and along with it a new series of adventures. Some were more lighthearted such as interviews and hot springs. And some struck closer to home such as finding that her beloved aeons were regurgitated from the Farplane and touched by darkness. And, of course, the troubling dream of her and Tidus fleeing armed men only to be struck down in front of a large and fierce-looking machine. These adventures also involved the leaders of the three major sphere and treasure factions in Spira. Nooj, leader of New Yevon, was revealed to be possessed by a vengeful spirit who later entered Baralai, the leader of another faction, New Yevon.

When Yuna fell into the Farplane, she found that the man in the sphere is not Tidus but Shuyin, who believed her to be Lenne, his girlfriend from 1000 years ago. This is due to the songstress dressphere she inhabits throughout the game. He wants to destroy Spira in order to avenge his suffering. It's an emotional ride for Yuna, who had her hopes set on finding Tidus alive again. Confused and in Shuyin's arms, she wondered whose emotions were taking over her body, hers or Lenne's? But before she can come to a conclusion, Nooj and Gippal appear and chase Shuyin/Baralai away. Left alone without a way to leave the Farplane, Yuna contended with her own thoughts. She finally expressed her discontent about not knowing what was going on, going so far as to yell into the empty space. Her words were answered by a whistle and a faint figure of someone familiar who guided her out of the Farplane.

When Yuna emerged, she learned that due to the factions missing their leaders, disharmony sprouted against New Yevon and The Youth League. Recognizing that her role as a High Summoner could bring peace, Yuna took up the microphone and sang in the songstress dressphere. The spherewaves of the dressphere began to interrupt the airship's projector and Lenne appeared, revealing the tragic 1000 year-old story of herself and Shuyin on the monitor.

Entering the Farplane a second time, Yuna and her friends stopped Shuyin from using Vegnagun, the ultimate machine weapon, against Spira. Afterward, she convinced Shuyin to listen to her and released Lenne's spirit from the dressphere . Together, she and Shuyin fade away.

Leaving the Farplane victorious, the fayth of Bahamut, her fifth aeon, asked if she wants to walk with him again. Yuna answered 'yes' and the fayth disappeared, leaving Yuna to her thoughts.

Perched atop the airship with her two best friends, Yuna and the Gullwings left for Besaid, opting not to stay for the final ceremonies. Yuna reflected on her journey and decided that she wants to keep changing. She closed this chapter of her life by crediting Tidus as being the catalyst to her new development: It all began when I saw this sphere of you... and hoped to continue her story.

[THE GOOD&PERFECT ENDINGS]

But upon their arrival, Yuna noticed the figure of a young blond-haired man emerging from the waters. Realizing that this is the him she had been longing for, she fled to the inside of the ship and seconds before it could finally open its hanger, Yuna darted out of it and sprinted into his arms. They ran to the shore, where they were met with the other Besaid inhabitants and she began to tell him how she found him again.

When they finally get a quiet moment together, they went to Zanarkand and speculated how he's returned. His theories: the fayth gathered his thoughts and brought him back or that he's still a dream and will fade. They promised each other that they'd cherish each other and stay together.

ABILITIES:
White Magic - The majority of Yuna's magic is defensive, save for one: Holy, a spell that conjures a ring of white orbs before attacking the target. The rest are variations of healing spells, in particular Cure, Protect (temporary magical shield), Esuna (removes most status ailments), NulElement (nullifies an attack by a certain element), Reflect (temporarily reflects spells to the caster), and Life (revives an unconscious member). She also can Pray to raise the health of her party slightly.

Summoning - Yuna has the ability to call aeons, summoned beasts, to her aid. These creatures all vary in size, shape, and attack style, but all of them are far larger than the average person. A defunct ability in-game, it's something Yuna could feasibly do if the aeons were still alive.

Overdrive: Grand Summon - When her overdrive gauge is completely filled, Yuna can summon one of her aeons and unleash their overdrive, or maximum damage attack.

Sending - When people die in Spira, their souls have one of two (normal) options: To go to the Farplane where they will be at (assumed) peace or to stay on Spira and become a fiend, creatures that attack the living. (The unnormal option is to stay as an unsent ghost). In order to prevent the latter, summoners guide the deceased to the Farplane through a ritual spiraling dance. Yuna has displayed a strong emotional tie to performing the sending, sometimes crying while dancing (Kilika) or needing a moment to be alone afterward (Djose). Usually, the sending is done with a staff, the weapon of choice for all summoners (as it doubles as a summoning rod). But, during certain occasions, summoners have sent without it. Similarly, the dearly departed that have accepted death during life have been strong enough to send themselves to the Farplane.

Gunplay - Yuna's default dressphere is the Gunner, which comes equipped with two TinyBee glocks. She coordinates most of her attacks to use them in unison. She's proficient enough to utilize acrobatics while shooting at a target (and then strike a pose). Most of her attacks though are well-grounded, though some of her bullets are enchanted with status ailments.

Singing - Usually in the aforementioned songstress dressphere, Yuna can sing a tune and dance in a way that allows for fighting techniques. Most of these abilities are defensive, though. The importance of the dressphere is more for the sake of Lenne's memories being tied to it.

Special Dressphere: Floral Fallal - The “overdrive” of her dressphere grid. It's a powerful, full-body transformation that takes the literal representation of her name and makes it a power. (Yuna means hibicus flower and the outfit says as much). All of her abilities are flower-based with one side of herself focusing on attacking while the other focuses on defense. In order to use this, Yuna must change into every single job class in her dressphere grid (so needless to say, this is an ability that doesn't happen often).

Blitzball & Swimming - True, this is a sport and therefore not really an ability unless she were a professional Blitzer. However, it's a ten-minute game underwater. Yuna (and other Spirans, it seems) can hold her breath underwater for a ridiculous amount of time due to this sport. She also can swim, but it can be assumed she learned how from living on an island most of her life populated by (a never winning) blitzball team.

OTHER ABILITIES:
- In FFX-2, every member of YRP can access the same dresspheres (with the exception of Special ones). But for the sake of the game (and my sanity), I think it would be better to keep it simple and do without the ones that haven't directly affected Yuna in-game.

GAME INFO
EDENSPHERE NAME: Fayth
BIRTHDAY LOG: Yes, please!
DREAM:

There were shooting stars blazing across the sky that night. Or were they shooting stars? She couldn't be too sure, as they glittered incandescently and danced in and out of their trajectory. From her safe vantage point on the beach, the stars seemed like they were diving into the water. She watched the light show and shivered a little, though not from the cold night air.

Something brushed against her shoulder. She turned into it and started a little. A monster - no, not a monster, a beast greeted her with a small coo against her ear. The large wings that had sprouted from its sides and a beak that almost seemed made of metal should of frightened her, but it didn't. In fact, the creature felt more comforting and familiar than the light show above them. With little trepidation, she reached out to the creature and patted the side of its beak. It seemed the right thing to do, as the creature practically purred under her touch and nudged the side of her head affectionately with its own.

Just as suddenly as it came, it left. It took off, its wings beating hard against the illuminated sky. She bolted after it as far as she could go before the surf met the shore. “Wait, don't go!” But it was too late; the magnificent beast had flown away and dispersed into a million glowing, sighing orbs, the very same substance she had initially thought were stars. Her heart felt like it was crushing against itself. “Not you too...” Though who else she was eluding to, she couldn't say.

“You've been dreaming.”

She jumped and turned to the little boy who had approached her from behind so soundlessly. His face was partially covered by a purple hood but she had the creeping suspicion that he was watching her intently from under it. “Who are you?”

He shook his head. “Don't be scared.”

“I'm not scared.” And it was the truth. What she was feeling wasn't fear, but an overwhelming amount of confusion. And sadness.

“Do you want to see him again?”

Her heart stirred inside her chest. She frowned and placed her hands against it, feeling it quicken even more at the though of seeing him... him who? Who was he? She couldn't quite pull the memory to the forefront of her mind, but her body reacted before she could think longer on the subject. She nodded, but didn't speak it as if she didn't trust herself to say it outloud.

He gestured out to the ocean. “It's time. You know where to go. Our song will guide you.”

She nodded again, this time more assure of herself. She stepped on the water, confident that it would not break under her feet. With resolve burning with each step, she tread across the ocean, the little boy's lullaby joined by other voices filling her ears. She walked, knowing in her heart that she would find the place she was looking for: where the dancing lights met the sea.

JOURNAL SAMPLE: [The entry is written in small, delicate print but with a very deliberate hand.]

Hello to you, whoever you are. Can you guess what today is?

Today... I was born.

I know that seems a little redundant; I must have been born, as I'm writing to you right now. But since I'm chronicling my story here, I thought it was a good place to start.

I know I should be looking for a job, and yet I spent the better part of the day reading as many of the entries written today as I could. Forgive me, if I'm being intrusive but we're all connected through these journals. I wanted to know who you were. Or maybe I was trying to find that young hooded boy from my dream...

Oh! But I didn't introduce myself. I was told to pick a name and so I did. Please, call me Faith.

No, wait. No, that's not right. Fa...eth. Faieth. Fay...

Fayth.

This way looks best, I think. Or rather...

It just feels right.

You know, I'm not sure to whom I should dedicate these entries. So to you, whoever you all are, I hope we're able to meet each other soon. As for now, my life begins...

Maybe I'll start looking for that job now. Any suggestions?

ASPIRATIONS: I think once I get a better feel of the RP, I'll have a better idea of what my aspirations for Yuna are. But mostly, just to get her started up and interacting with the game and making friends. I feel like she'll be naturally inquisitive about the loss of memories (memory is a big part of the games/Spira and I think she'll be innately curious to find out more about hers and where they are) which would lead to being more curious about the world of Edensphere itself. But for now, just playing would suffice :)
