Personality Elaborations:
Hallelujah without Allelujah would be a lot more volatile, of course. Violence would be a quick way to solve things. The lack of impulse control will also affect him, as he isn’t used to being punished. Hallelujah would be independent, but at the same time he’ll be frustrated since he sees guidance in a way. He’s not used to having to do things on his own, rather he gets told what happens and he makes his own plans to how things should be carried out.
He will be shred, not trusting anyone. With Allelujah losing trust in him, he doesn’t trust others. He will have a hard time forming relationships with others, but at the same time he will have the drive to find out what is missing in his life. He will manipulate others since that’s how he’s used to treating others. Other people to him will not really matter, but be seen as something that “comes and goes” to say. He doesn’t desire long lasting connections with others. At the same time, he doesn’t mind attention and having fun. He likes indulging himself and giving into the more sinful things. He’s not reserved at all, not caring what others think of hi; he lives in the moment. He doesn’t mind people giving him positive attention and giving him things. He probably wouldn’t give back to the person unless he saw a good reason in to.
Hallelujah is curious but secretive. He will try to figure out his own existence in the Sphere, but at the same time be careful. He’s a natural survivor, so he’ll always be cautious. Hallelujah always finds a way to adapting, thriving in tough conditions. He can live off very little, the motivation of staying alive being enough for him to deal with things
Background:
Hallelujah Haptism is born through the experiences Allelujah Haptism suffered during the testing and training process of the Super Soldier (human modification) program of the Human Reform League (HRL - the merger of China and Russia essentially). Hallelujah Haptism did not give himself a name upon creation, simply just killing and dealing with the pain and torture Allelujah could not withstand. In the program Allelujah, and subsequently Hallelujah, are referred to as E-0057.
In the early stages of Hallelujah’s development, he would take over Allelujah’s body sporadically and unconsciously in the direst of situations. Usually these situations had to incite a great amount of fear in Allelujah so Hallelujah would emerge. An example of this behavior is when Allelujah is put against another boy, and the scientist told them to fight. Allelujah didn’t know what to do, but he didn’t want to die. In that instant, Halellujah took over and ripped the other boy’s eye out. Hallelujah soon regressed back into Allelujah’s mind, leaving Allelujah confused and the other boy dying of blood loss.
Life in the Super Soldier program was difficult. There was a constant fear mongering and pressure to succeed. Children who became unfit for the program were poisoned and discarded. The main modification of these children used quantum brain wave technology. Quantum brain waves were rumored to give people a sixth sense of sorts. Human testing of this was illegal across the world, so the Super Soldier program remained hidden from almost all parts of the HRL’s government. The program would gather up orphan children from war torn areas, much like Allelujah, and use these forgotten children to experiment on.
The experiments ranged from virtual reality to combat training. The most severe and painful of experiments related to quantum brain waves. Children were subjected to these waves, causing a great deal amount of pain. Most children died due to the overexposure of these waves. Instead of dying from it, Hallelujah flourished inside Allelujah, becoming more powerful form it. With power, though, Hallelujah became more violent.
Early on it was just Allelujah and Hallelujah, which wasn’t so bad. Allelujah didn’t know much about social norms, having lost his memory. They had a working relationship, even a companionship. Allelujah was very lonely, and so he would depend on Hallelujah to comfort him, even when Hallelujah was probably not the best for it. Hallelujah always had the desire of Allelujah’s attention, and he grew to want Allelujah needing and depending on him. Friends in the Super Soldier program were hard to come by since most children died, so attachments were painful. One day Allelujah did find another attachment, and her name was Marie Parfacy.
Their unique quantum brain wave connection allowed them to speak to each other, even when Marie was in a comatose like state. Hallelujah overheard their conversations, but he didn’t find them a point of interest until the day his name was brought up. When Allelujah told Marie that “other voice” in his head didn’t have a name, Marie decided to give Hallelujah a name. Hallelujah didn’t really care about the name, but Allelujah and Marie seemed happy about it. It almost cemented a three-way friendship between them, but Hallelujah didn’t have interest in Marie for the most part.
As the testing and experiments got harder to endure, it took a toll on both Hallelujah and Allelujah. Hallelujah conjured a plan on how to escape, citing the times the guard’s and scientists were away from the most secure parts of the facility: the docking bay. Allelujah agreed with him, but at the time he didn’t feel he could do it. Time went on, and Allelujah overheard a group of children trying to escape. They told Allelujah they were discarding all the E series of test subjects. Hallelujah wasn’t one for teamwork with others outside Allelujah, but he strongly encouraged Allelujah this was the time to escape. The other children and Allelujah laid out their plans, and it was decided they would carry out the plan that night. Hallelujah could feel Allelujah’s insecurities about their death and the other children. Hallelujah told Allelujah they had to survive no matter what and that was their main purpose. Hallelujah didn’t care about the other children dying, but he left that detail out so Allelujah could focus. Allelujah realized that they would have to leave Marie behind, their only friend. Hallelujah told Allelujah there was no way to bring her, especially since she was physically disabled. Allelujah was torn, but Hallelujah told him Marie would want him to leave rather than getting discarded.
When the plan was being carried out, another boy panicked. One of the guards shot the boy, soon realizing a break out was in place. It was too late to capture the children, as they had gotten into a transport ship. The guard did shoot and damage the ship, leaving the controls damaged. The ship was damned to roaming space, destined to have all of its passengers die. Allelujah was walking by the control panel when he noticed the oxygen supply was running low. Hallelujah took not of it, knowing what was to come. Allelujah asked Hallelujah what they should do and Hallelujah simply replied with whatever they had to do to survive.
There was a mass panic when the other children realized the food and oxygen supplies were running out. They were nowhere near Earth and a colony, inciting hysteria. The children were screaming, crying, asking Allelujah what they were going to do. Something inside Alleujah cracked - he realized that he was going to die. Hallelujah took this chance, finally emerging with more control over their body than ever. He knew he had to kill those boys to they could live, and so he did. Hallelujah killed them all, ignoring their pleas to live. No amount of begging affected Hallelujah’s drive to kill them and survive . Once Hallelujah had killed all the children, he regressed back into their mind. When Allelujah realized what he had done, he was furious and upset with Hallelujah. He screamed at Hallelujah, asking why he did such a terrible thing. Hallelujah just responded curtly, saying he had to or they would die. Allelujah asked for an elaboration, but Hallelujah remained silent the rest of the time.
Eventually Allelujah was discovered, passed out form lack of food and oxygen by HRL government officials. The workers had no idea Allelujah was a part of the Super Soldier program, so they brought him back onto their ship. Allelujah was rushed to the medical bay of their ship, receiving immediate medical care. The HRL workers watched over him, and eventually they returned to a colony under the HRL’s district. Allelujah only awoke to find himself in a hospital in the colony. He was immediately frightened, having a panic attack. The doctor gave him sedatives, still trying to figure out who this mysterious boy was.
One night Hallelujah told Allelujah they had to escape, especially since in would only be a matter of time before the Super Soldier’s program would find them. Allelujah escaped the hospital, finding himself on the streets of the foreign colony. The timing was lucky, as the next day the Super Soldier program caught word of E-0057 in the government hospital. It was too late though, and soon they started searching the streets. Allelujah was always on the run, living in abandoned houses and rough parts of town - those areas were harder to find people, so they were more secure.
Years went on, Allelujah and Hallelujah working together to survive. The government wasn’t as actively searching after Allelujah as much, but once in a while they would spot men following and tracking them. Hallelujah had killed several of these men, and he was the one who provided money and support for Allelujah. He would steal food, clothing, and weapons for them. By the age of fourteen, the peace was disturbed. Hallelujah was the one who felt quantum brain waves around him, but he did not alert Allelujah. One night the quantum brain waves became stronger, signaling that the other super soldier he sensed was very close. Hallelujah knew he had to take care of it, thinking that the government had finally caught up to them.
Hallelujah met the other super soldier, Leonard Fieness. Leonard was rather unemotional towards Hallelujah, not showing any fear or anger towards the other. Halleujah told him about how they (him and Allelujah) escaped the facility, but Leonard didn’t care. Hallelujah told Leonard he would kill him so the government wouldn’t find him. Leonard didn’t care, telling Hallelujah he didn’t fear death. Hallelujah kidnapped Leonard, which incited Leonard’s partner and fellow pilot to come after him. When Leonard was convinced by his partner he had to live, Leonard threatened Hallelujah to bring out the “other him,” referring to Allelujah. Leonard told Hallelujah his ability as a super soldier was in quantum brain wave manipulation rather than fighting. Hallelujah begrudgingly let Leonard free, fearing Allelujah would get them captured. Leonard did not report Allelujah’s sighting, but Halleujah did not know that.
By the age of seventeen/eighteen, Allelujah was approached by a member of Celestial Being. The proposed to him he didn’t need to be on the run anymore, but he would have to fight. Of course Hallelujah didn’t trust this at first, but Allelujah was growing tired of being on the run. The downside to Allelujah was fighting, as he grew a loathing of it being raised in the Super Soldier program. Hallelujah didn’t see the down side in killing people to stay alive, and with persuasion and agreement, Allelujah accepted the offer. The main agreement he made with Hallelujah was he would be the one fighting, and Hallelujah was not allowed to take over unless Allelujah was somehow impaired. Hallelujah agreed to the proposal, slightly proud Allelujah was going to fight. The training Allelujah went under was vastly different from what he previously went through. Hallelujah learned with Allelujah, and they worked together to complete tasks. Hallelujah wanted more, though. He wanted the desire to fight in a real battle. After all, he felt that was part of his purpose. Guiding Allelujah to shoot virtual mobile suits was not it.
Allelujah had done well, and members of Celestial Being felt Veda’s request of having Allelujah as a Gundam Meister was almost complete. Allelujah met Sumeragi, Lee Noriega, the future tactical forecaster and coordinator of the Gundam Meisters. She asked him his full name, and Allelujah gave his first name, but paused when asked his last name. Hallelujah suggest Haptism, and so Allelujah told Sumeragi that his full name was Allelujah Haptism. Allelujah was happy about them finally having a complete name, but Hallelujah didn’t care.
At the age of nineteen, Celestial Being announced its presence to the world. Hallelujah is excited they can finally fight, but Allelujah still has reservations. Their first mission was simple, simply bombing HRL forces and rebel armies in Sri Lanka. Hallelujah didn’t get the taste of battle he desired.
Allelujah was going back going between Earth and space when he suddenly felt painful headache. Hallelujah knew it was another super soldier, but did not know who it was at that moment. The brainwaves were clashing, and Hallelujah had enough. He took over their body, furious at the other super soldier. The other super soldier happened to be Marie Parfacy, but went under the name of Soma Peries. Soma Peries was in extreme agony, losing control of her mobile suit and herself. She ended up hitting the space elevator, endangering many lives. Hallelujah laughs at the situation, thankful they aren’t a part of the damaged gravity block. Allelujah tells Hallelujah they have to save the people in the drifting gravity block. Hallelujah tells Allelujah to stay out of the situation, but Allelujah can’t help but feel for the people; the situation reminded him of how they were drifting in space, left to die. Allelujah ends up seizing control over Hallelujah, springing into action to save the people. Despite Hallelujah’s demand, Allelujah contacts Celestial Being and uses his Gundam Kyrios to save the drifting block. Hallelujah does not interfere, seeing the desire Allelujah has, even if he doesn’t feel it’s their place. In the aftermath, Allelujah is sentenced to suspension and possible removal. Hallelujah lectures Allelujah in being careless, saying his kindness could have risked not only their own life but fellow Celestial Being members. Hallelujah also adds that people will forget about Allelujah’s stunt soon enough.
Hallelujah has a new goal of confronting that other super soldier. He doesn’t tell Allelujah too much about it, waiting to bide his time to get more information. He has an intense desire to kill her, knowing she is an extreme threat to their existence. He knows he’ll have to usurp control over Allelujah when the time comes. The time comes soon enough when the HRL decides to make a plan to capture a Gundam. Soma Peries’ mobile suit is now equipped in dealing with the their quantum brain waves, but because of this, the HRL knows Allelujah is alive (the scientists quickly remove data of his existence to cover their tracks). Sergei Smirnov leads the attack with Soma Peries to catch Gundam Kyrios. Sadly Allelujah’s Gundam does not block Soma’s quantum brain waves, he is left in pain. Hallelujah waits patiently for the right time to take over Allelujah’s body. Hallelujah wakes up after the HRL captures the Gundam inside a space transporter. He finally realizes that the other super soldier is indeed Marie. Hallelujah takes control of the Gundam, essentially destroying it to escape. He has learned to adapt to the brain waves Soma gives off, so they no longer hurt him. He charges Soma, Sergei, and another pilot, Ming.
Hallelujah declares how Soma and him are alike, saying how they are both monsters. He calls her woman, toying with her as they engage in battle. Ming decides to take action, giving up his life for Soma and Sergei. He attack Hallelujah dead on, but it’s no use. Hallelujah Hallelujah starts to destroy and essentially kill Ming slowly. He finally gets the thrill of killing someone after so long. Ming tells Hallelujah he will be punished, but Hallelujah doesn’t care at all. Hallelujah is in ecstasy over this all, but Allelujah can hear and feel these things as well. Allelujah protests Hallelujah’s actions, but Hallelujah claims he is doing this for Allelujah since Hallelujah can’t kill this man. Hallelujah pretends to give into Allelujah, but he ends up killing Ming in that instant, laughing about it. After, Allelujah gains control again. He asks Hallelujah why he did such a thing, why he enjoys killing, but Hallelujah doesn’t respond. Hallelujah senses Allelujah’s pain, but he feels justified in the killing.
Hallelujah lays low while Allelujah deals with aftermath of killing Ming. Allelujah is still upset at him, and so Hallelujah decides to let him cool off for the time being. Hallelujah does notice Allelujah thinking about the other super soldier, but he doesn’t give Allelujah any information on who it could be. This whole thinking gets Allelujah to once again thinking about the super soldier program. Hallelujah uses this to distract Allelujah from questioning who the other super soldier is. Hallelujah incites the idea of using Celestial Being and Veda to destroy the super soldier program. Hallelujah taunts Allelujah, saying he’ll take care of “it” just like he did previously (referring to killing the other super soldier children as a child). Allelujah gets upset with him, but Hallelujah once again regresses back into their mind, leaving Allelujah yelling at a confused Setsuna.
With Allelujah giving the information about the Super Soldier program to Sumeragi, Hallelujah is pleased that Allelujah is making a step to move on from the past. At the same time, he knows Allelujah holds a lot of reservations; he has a feeling he’ll have to push Allelujah to go through with it. As the mission is being carried out, Hallelujah can feel and sense the children being used in the Super Soldier program in the HRL colony. He can tell it is having an effect on Allelujah, and so he starts to speak to him. Hallelujah tells him if Allelujah doesn’t destroy the facility, those kids will come after them and kill them. Allelujah pleads to Hallelujah, suggesting they can somehow move the kids somewhere else and rescue them. Hallelujah forces that delusion out of Allelujah’s head, mocking him for coming up with such an idea. Once again Hallelujah reminds Allelujah of their childhood, saying how that super soldier they fought (Soma Peries) didn’t feel fighting was bad, probably enjoying it. Allelujah caves into Hallelujah demands, destroying the facility. Hallelujah is proud of Allelujah, congratulating him by saying that Allelujah is really his other. He knows Allelujah is upset with him, but he feels it is worth it; the threat of those super soldiers no longer exists. The irony of the situation, it ends up being Allelujah’s birthday the next day. Allelujah ends up having a drink with Sumeragi, getting some taunting words from Hallelujah as he does so.
Hallelujah lets Allelujah take care of the missions, seeing as the missions don’t need his skills. The next mission, however, is another story. During the Taklamakan Desert mission, Hallelujah comes out again because Allelujah can’t withstand Soma’s brainwaves. Hallelujah can’t resist at the chance of killing Soma, emerges. Hallelujah asks Soma for her name, knowing she is Marie Parfacy. She responds saying she is Soma Peries, which Hallelujah laughs at. He realizes at this point the HRL probably has brainwashed or caused some sort of amnesia happened to Marie. He makes sure Allelujah can’t hear any of his thoughts or the conversation, wanting to keep Marie’s identity a secret. He knows if Allelujah finds out, Allelujah will never fight against her. Soma or “Marie” obviously wants Allelujah dead as well, so to keep Allelujah alive he has to keep this dark secret form Allelujah. Eventually Soma and the HRL forces are told to pull back, and so Hallelujah gives Allelujah control over their body once again.
With the emergence of the Trinities, Celestial Being holds off on missions. Hallelujah is annoyed at not fighting, wanting to kill Soma Peries now more than ever. Hallelujah keeps to himself, once in a while talking to Allelujah about encouraging Sumeragi to give them a mission. Instead of that, Allelujah ignores the requests and helps Ian out with maintenance around Ptolemy. Hallelujah grows more restless, but bids his time until he can meet Soma Peries again.
Missions once again start again, but people still compare the Trinity Gundams to Celestial Being Gundams. This doesn’t matter to Hallelujah, but he does like the fact Allelujah is doing something again. Things are especially hard now for Celestial Being since they lost the resource of Veda, having been locked out of the system by Alejandro Corner and Ribbons Almark. Hallelujah still doesn’t care, not minding the old fashioned way of fighting. He starts to notice Allelujah easing up when it comes to fighting, which makes his job easier. Hallelujah does not take pity on Lockon Stratos or Tieria Erde when Veda fails, thinking Lockon and Tieria are weak. Hallelujah tells Allelujah how kindness of others is hypocritical once again, especially with how Lockon saved Tieria. Allelujah is furious with Hallelujah’s comments, leaving them not to speak to each other for a few days. In these next few days, more missions are carried out. Lockon Stratos ends up getting killed in action by his desire for revenge. Hallelujah tells Allelujah how clinging to the past is not good, but Allelujah tells Hallelujah this isn’t the time. Hallelujah speaks no more, leaving Allelujah alone.
In the next mission, Hallelujah once again crosses paths with Soma and Sergei. This time Hallelujah helps Allelujah from dealing with the conflicting brain waves of Soma. He feels Allelujah has find his will to fight, and with that, he can trust Allelujah. They engage in battle, but things are not looking to good at first. Allelujah doesn’t want to die, and with this drive, and they (Allelujah and Hallelujah) finally work together. When Allelujah and Hallelujah join forces, their skills increase dramatically. Allelujah and Hallelujah tell Soma they are going to show her what a real Super Soldier can do. Hallelujah still hasn’t told Allelujah Soma is Marie, but he feels he finally has his chance to kill her. Soma ends up taking a deadly blow to her mobile suit, killing her. Sergei’s mobile suit is badly damaged, but so is Kyrios. With killing Marie, Hallelujah’s secret unravels. Allelujah sees Soma on the screen, her dead body mangled in the mobile suits carnage. He asks Hallelujah if he knew, and he admits to he knew. He tells Allelujah that he did it to keep him alive, because if Allelujah knew Soma was Marie, Allelujah would have died. Allelujah can’t stand the fact he has killed Marie, his only real friend during childhood. He feels like a monster, and he is angry at Hallelujah for letting things go to far. He doesn’t want to live this life, so he lets Hallelujah take control “forever” because he can’t deal with losing her. Hallelujah passes out in Kyrios cockpit, not knowing he will be captured and sent to prison.
To elaborate on why H/Allelujah is still alive, it’s because Hallelujah still has the desire to live, even though greatly weakened by Allelujah’s emotional break down over losing Marie. I feel in the Sphere, without memories, Hallelujah can function without getting angry and upset at why he failed Allelujah. Hallelujah will still feel he has a purpose, but he won’t know that. Hallelujah’s purpose is to get Allelujah back, but the isn’t sure how. In the Sphere, he will feel like something is missing inside him, a part of him. He will not understand his reason/purpose for living. He will try to figure out why, because Hallelujah still has the desire to get Allelujah to grow up; Hallelujah doesn’t want Allelujah to fail. Hallelujah is left to fix the damage he has caused, and in the Sphere, hopefully, he can one day find his own purpose without depending on Hallelujah to give him one. Without memories, he will be able to carry on without feeling frustrated, lost, and angry at how things turned out (all the time, anyway). Since he will still have some residual feelings about what happened, there will be times where he will want to act out violently to coax his emotions in order. Since we have an Allelujah, that will also restore some sense of purpose he has, even if that Allelujah is not “his” (as time goes on, that is). He will also find other social connections within the Sphere’s residents, gaining his own independence, forcing himself to grow up as well.
