Personality: Naia is blasé - nothing impresses her when it comes to human emotion or folly. She’s experienced much of those extremes herself, and doesn’t tolerate undue drama in others. But at the same time she is utterly fascinated by what makes people tick - she is a people watcher, and you can often find her sitting in a hallway, watching and waiting. Some people she just doesn’t understand though - she doesn’t understand why her cousins, and particularly Colin, are so protective of her. To her, it’s just irrational.
Naia is looking for an adventure - her favorite subjects are Defense Against the Dark Arts (for obvious reasons), Potions (subtle and a good means to an end), Transfiguration (a ready tool for any adventurer), and Ancient Runes (secret code!). She is less fond of Herbology (watching plants grow, yech), and History of Magic (yeah, doomed to repeat it, but must one suffer through it three times?). The idea of adventure is much more appealing than adventure itself, though. She fights hard to master DADA because she never wants to be caught without it - fearing the worst if it happens.
Naia is not the studious Ravenclaw, but rather the roving one - hungry for knowledge but knowing that knowledge is not always within books. She is searching for truth, and looks beyond her studies for it. She is well read - her father sends her clippings of muggle papers, and her mother discusses the happenings of the wizarding world. Newspapers cover every level surface in Naia’s home - and all sources are considered (some, at least, for the humor value).
Naia’s parents are politically savvy, and Naia struggles to live up to their example. But Naia is a little more cautious than her protesting parents - she feels that her best interests are better served by keeping quiet and watching things unfold. She would never act outright, but if she had the chance to act covertly … she'd hesitate, but do the right thing in the end.

Strengths: Both magical and personality: Naia is good a potions, because if she follows the recipie and instructions, it's a very physical process and something she doesn't understand... she can just feel. She's also ace at Ancient Runes because she puts a lot of effort into the class, knowing that it may be the key to getting an exciting job. Naia truly does love life -- when she's in a good mood, she's upbeat and tries to be everyone's friend. She likes looking for fun, harmless pranks and jokes, and ideas that would be fun to discuss and play with. She can keep a secret, and is very polite.
Weaknesses: Both magical and personality: Naia is not a resiliant person. She's immature emotionally for her age. When something upsets her, she broods for days, weeks and isn't able to talk about it with any sort of articulation until she sorts it out for herself. She won't take risks, she needs to be safe. She can't commit to much. She's flighty, and doesn't want a job in the future -- she doesn't know what she wants to do in the future. She will start something and not finish it, and that's the way she's always been. Naia also fails at being stealthy. She wants to be Sherlock Holmes, but she can't sneak and she's an observer, but not observant. Magically, she isn't so good at Charms and Transfiguration. The theory behind those classes causes her to mess up what should be a very instintual process for her. She overthinks her life.

Naia is afraid of death. She’s afraid of her friends and family dying, she’s afraid of dying herself. It manifests itself in her personality in her hesitancy. Where her cousins, who she grew up with, are very outgoing, punching people and pulling pranks, she is much more reluctant to do anything of the sort. It doesn’t mean she doesn’t do it - but she needs many assurances of safety to do it. She needs to know she won’t get caught, that it will go right, because she is afraid of the ultimate going wrong.
History:
Naia’s mother, Kylie Mayfield-Bergren is the youngest daughter of a long, pureblood line. She grew up immersed in the high culture of pureblood society, betrothed to a rich heir. As a loyal daughter she met and formed friendships with many of her pure peers. But Kylie found that one could be a bitch no matter their bloodline, and formed rather strong negative opinions of families she should be getting along with best.
When she left Hogwarts, Kylie went onto a venture into the muggle world to indulge her innate curiosity - she, too, was Ravenclaw. Kylie fell into a group of artists and political activists and found their company invigorating, freeing. She returned to the Wizarding world to break her engagement and wrangle her inheritance.
Kylie met and married a young American expatriate, Danny Bergren. Danny is not a terribly successful artist, but his free spirit gave him the open mind to marry a witch. As newly weds, they lived off of Kylie’s purloined inheritance, but as they both grew more involved in the political scene Kylie began organizing fundraising benefits - and soon was highly sought after and richly paid.
Naia was born after a careful planning, uncharacteristic of the bohemian bourgeois couple. At the age of three, Naia desperately wanted to be a witch for Halloween. Kylie originally refused, knowing that Naia was referring to the ugly sterotype of green skin, warts, and unfashionable black hats. Naia begged, and Kylie relented and took her to meet some real witches - Hogwarts classmates that Kylie had kept in touch with. Naia was fitted for her first set of robes and wore them for Halloween. She was excited to be a real witch.
Kylie, a Ravenclaw, taught Naia to read at the age of three, trying to keep her daughter from being her rambunctious self. When she was five she took up the reading of Sherlock Holmes, which was only discovered by her parents when she began making “logical deductions” and talking about things being “elementary.” Naia has, from that point, had a keen mind for mystery.
However, when she first began "solving mysteries" she got into quite a number of scrapes -- she was bruising too easily, and the bruises wouldn't go away. When Naia began complaining of joint pain, sobbing in pain, Kylie took her to Hospital, who eventually diagnosed her with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. She almost died, but eventually was declared in remission, around the age of 6.5.
Kylie made sure that Naia was close to her extended family, including her uncles and cousins. They visited Naia's American family in the States every couple of years. Kylie herself was particularly close to her brother Thomas. Thomas’ wife, Corina, didn’t approve of Kylie’s choice of spouse and so Naia never knew her aunt. But Thomas made every effort to know and befriend Naia. Unfortunately, Thomas died when Naia was 7 - profoundly galvanizing her mother against her upbringing, cementing Naia’s fear of death, and effectively removing Colin from her life until she reached Hogwarts. She remained playmates with Max, though, as well as her adopted cousin Amorisa.

She pulled out a blue textbook, and flipped open the cover to read the grade levels listed on the inside -- students in grade 10 -- and she tucked it under her arm to go find a table to spread out on.
Naia set her bag down on the floor, removed her robes and drapped them on the back of her chair, and tucked one leg under her to sit at the table.
