EXTENDED APPLICATION -- PLEASE DO AT LEAST A PARAGRAPH ON EACH OF THESE, UNLESS THEY ARE STATED TO BE OPTIONAL
Personality: Elanor is pretty quiet and reserved most of the time. She keeps to herself a lot, feeling more comfortable in the library than in a social situation. While some people strive to be the center of attention, she can think of nothing more terrifying than all eyes being on her. Of course, she has an unusual appearance and she's plenty paranoid, so even when it's not the case, she's often convinced that all eyes are on her.

Elanor is never intentionally mean-spirited, but she does have a temper. A lot of times she gets into arguments, some of which come to blows, with people... not because she's a confrontational person, but rather because she overreacts to a lot of situations.

One of her primary motivations is that she is looking for love. It is something that was pretty absent from Elanor's childhood, but she did read about it growing up. She wants little more than to fall in love and live happily ever after. Unfortunately, since it wasn't a part of her life, Elanor doesn't even really know what love is. As much as she reads about it, it is a concept that she can not fully grasp or understand.

Strengths: Both magical and personality:
Magical: Elanor's magical strengths lie in those areas that do not require a wand. Her best classes are those in which she can learn most of what she needs to know from a text book. But being able to read and retain information is hardly a magical strength.

Having grown up with a Potions Mistress as a mother, Elanor is competent and confident around a cauldron. Although she's certainly not gifted in Potions, she's got an attention to detail and a level of patience that allows her to do well in the class.

She also has a knack for Herbology. At home, Elanor keeps a garden with the help of her house elf. Plants, she feels, are far easier to understand than people. She'll never breed new species, or make a revolutionary breakthrough in the subject, but she enjoys it--and at the least, she never kills the plants.

Personality: Elanor's greatest personality strength is her studious nature. What she lacks in natural magical talent, she makes up for with dedication, resolve, and lots of hard work. She works incredibly hard in all of her classes, choosing to study instead of socialize most of the time--because her academic success is very important to her.

Elanor definitely forms strong opinions about what is right and wrong, and she will fight to prove her position if provoked. This does not mean that she has opinions on everything, because she certainly doesn't. However, she's been known to get into arguments when she thinks that someone is being bullied. She believes that wars should be fought face-to-face with honor. She believes that one does owe a certain debt to one's family (even when one is not wholly sure that they agree with one's family's politics.)

When Elanor sees that one of her peers is uncomfortable or seems to be suffering for some reason, she will do her best to try to offer assistance. Sometimes she does not know exactly what to do, but her heart is in the right place. If she notices that someone seems to be uncomfortable in a situation, she'll try to change the situation to ease the discomfort. Should she encounter someone being bullied, she would try to defend them. She deals with her own fair share of negative emotions, so when she sees it in others, her instinct is to try to help--in spite of her own potential discomfort.

Weaknesses: Both magical and personality:
Magical: The class in which Elanor has the most difficulty is Transfiguration. It is not because she lacks interest in the subject, or the will to do well. Her problem is that overall, she struggles with wand work. This problem is compounded by her inability to really, fully comprehend nuance. She understands the theoretical aspects of the discipline, and faithfully reads her books. If asked a question about the principles of the subject, she could recite at length--but if she was asked to execute the transfiguration, she would struggle.

Elanor also struggles in Charms, because of her troubles with wand work. Unlike many people who cause disasters when their attempts at charms fail, Elanor usually just fails to produce results. She moves her wand, she speaks the incantation--but nothing happens. Given enough time and perseverance, though, she can learn the spells. It's just that it usually takes her twice as long as it does for her peers.

Personality: Elanor has a near complete inability to properly read people. Some of it can probably be blamed on her sheltered upbringing. However, she wasn't so sheltered that she should display this level of ineptitude. She'll be paranoid and suspicious of someone who has nothing but good intentions, and then she'll turn around and place her trust into someone like Jelly Ashworth. This problem projects into larger social situations as well. If she can't read an individual, she definitely can't read a group. For this reason, she tends to shy away from social situations and spend a lot of time in the library, or in the company of a few people around whom she feels comfortable.

Elanor can be quite obsessive. Mostly it manifests in regard to her studies--she spends hours upon hours in the library, in empty classrooms, at her desk, studying for classes. She reads ahead, she reviews chapters, she reads supplemental materials. However it can manifest in other areas of her life as well. She engages in almost ritualistic behavior--the same type of tea every day for breakfast, the same table in the library, the same morning routine... Even more frightening is the way that it can effect her interpersonal relationships. Elanor can become very attached to people. And when she does, her paranoia and irrational reactions can become even more pronounced.

Fears: Elanor's biggest fear would be public speaking. In a greater sense, she dreads any situation where she will be "on display" or the focus of attention from a crowd of people. It is for this same reason that she does not play Quidditch, even though she loves to fly and enjoys participating in physical activities.

She is also scared of failing her classes. Even though realistically, she is not in danger of failing any of her classes, she constantly worries about it. It's a wholly irrational fear, but one that is quite present in her life.

History: Elanor was born in Coventry, England to Lyndysty Hawthorne and Thorne Munwane, both of whom come from distinguished and wealthy pureblood lines. As the eldest child, Elanor became the heir to the Hawthorne and Munwane fortunes. She was raised by both of her parents, with the help of a house elf named Tilly, and some support from her paternal grandparents. However, her childhood was one lacking in any love from her family. Although they were very concerned for her well-being, her parents tended to regard Elanor more as an investment than as a child. No one in her family has ever shown her physical affection, in the belief that it would soften her too much. On the other hand, they have never physically abused her in her any way. Although her parents avoid frivolous spending, they have always provided quality clothing, food, shelter, and even private tutors to Elanor. Her grandmother Munwane coached her in all of the finer points of etiquette, while her grandfather schooled her in the great prestigious history and traditions of Wizarding kind. She was sheltered from Muggles and for most of her childhood only knew of them from her history lessons, which tended to paint them in a negative fashion. The only family member with whom Elanor was ever able to bond was the house elf Tilly. When Elanor was 5, her brother Quincey was born. Two years later, her mother gave birth to a girl, named Jaren.

Her parents maintained a strong social network with their peers, often visiting other families and attending a variety of social functions, often dragging Elanor along as well. For the most part, Elanor tended to be a reclusive child, preferring the company of books to that of other children. Many of the children of her parents' friends bothered her. She did have a few friends with whom she grew up, though. In particular, she enjoyed the companionship of a quiet and reserved girl named Daciana, who would visit from time to time. Also, she often spent time with Cole Foxkith when their families would visit each other. Later, she also befriended Rowan Foxkith, Cole's cousin, when Rowan moved in with his family.

When Elanor arrived at Hogwarts, she was sorted into Gryffindor, breaking a long-standing family tradition of being sorted into Slytherin. Her parents, while disappointed, accepted this, and tried to think of ways to make it 'work' for them. She was insatiably curious about the half-bloods and Muggleborn students with whom she now boarded. However, due to her sheltered upbringing and poorly developed social skills, instead of learning about them through interaction, she started spending lots of time in the library reading about them. For a combination of reasons, including those mentioned above, Elanor didn't make friends with people. While she knew those people in her classes and some of her own house, she never really spoke to most of them--not even her own dorm mates.

For her first four years at Hogwarts, things continued in much the same vein. Elanor kept mostly to herself, and usually put a great deal of effort into avoiding people. A part of her very much wanted to meet and talk to people, especially those of Muggle backgrounds, but she was too uncomfortable around others to do so. When she could, she would meet with Cole to play Wizard's Chess or with Daciana for tea. Sometimes she'd freak out when people approached her and yell at them. Her overreactions were not reserved just for strangers, though. Once, when she was in third year, Cole made a comment about her hair and she punched him before knocking over the chessboard and storming off. In the end, and with the intervention of Daciana, the two resolved the problem.

At the start of her fifth year, though, everything began to change. A lot of it could probably be attributed simply to 'growing up.' Some of her housemates finally decided to intervene and try talking to her. At that same time, she also met a boy in the library named Tristan du Lac. She was making friends. For the first time in her life, she got hugged by someone. Then, she got her first kiss, too--which instead of being romantic, ended with her punching Remy Cowan in the jaw. Not long after that, she started dating Tristan, who had managed to win her affections. It seemed that her life was finally starting to show signs of normalcy. That did not last for very long, though.

At the end of September, Elanor's mother was arrested for Death Eater activity. In early October, she was sentenced to life imprisonment at Azkaban. This discovery was a devastating blow for Elanor. She had known that her parents were conservative and elitist in their views, but had never pieced together the hints to realize that they were Death Eaters. Then, there was the discovery that her father had betrothed her to Tristan du Lac, without her knowledge--and that Tristan had known since before they started dating. Further complicating matters, Elanor began to worry that she was competing with another boy for her boyfriend's affections. Vulnerable, confused, and looking for companionship, she ended up dating a blood traitor from her own house. She even started to consider following that same path for herself, but before she was able to, Elanor was removed from school by her father. He claimed that his daughter was suffering serious emotional trauma as a result of her mother's arrest.

A month later, after undergoing considerable therapy, Elanor returned to Hogwarts. When she returned to school, she fell back on old habits of spending all of her time in the library. She was ready to accept her duties, be a good student, and repair her broken relationship with Tristan. Unfortunately, she learned that during her absence, Tristan had died--and any hopes of fixing her mistakes were gone. Now she has thrown most of her energy into being a good student and excelling on all of her upcoming O.W.L. exams. She has remained relatively social, though, chatting with her friends and peers in the Great Hall and common room. She doesn't fully understand how the world works, but she does her best to get by.

Physical Description: At the least, provide base details of build, height, eye/hair colour, and complexion.
Elanor has always been exceptionally tall for her age. At present she is 6 feet tall, and is unlikely to have any significant growth in the future. Her build is thin. She has long limbs, which make her look gangly and awkward. She has a very small chest and narrow hips; overall, she lacks any kind of feminine curves. Some might even say that her body type is verging on the androgynous.

Her face is more distinctly feminine with pleasant features. She has good bone structure, a heart-shaped face, a small nose, and a slight pout to her lips. The only really remarkable feature is her eyes, which are large, wide-set, and red.

Elanor's hair is also red. It has a bit of a natural wave to it, and falls to a little past her shoulders. She had a fringe that she's been growing out. While it's now long enough to tuck behind her ears, it rarely stays in place, and because of this, she is constantly brushing it out of her face.

Like most redheads, she is exceptionally pale in complexion. When she does go into the sun, she can 'tan,' which means that she goes from pallid to pale--then to pink and red. She has a few freckles, but not terribly many.

Special Considerations: Such as broom ownership, being an animagus, famous in some form, or a metamorphmagus. All are subject to mod approval. Elanor owns a Nimbus, but not the most current model. (She has whichever model was released 4 years ago). Even though there are newer and better models of brooms, Elanor is content with hers. It flies well, and it's very durable.

COMMUNITY SPECIFIC QUESTIONS -- ONLY ANSWER THE SECTION APPLICABLE TO YOUR CHARACTER
Hogwarts:
Year: Fifth year
House: Gryffindor
Why are they in that house? Unlike the rest of her family, Elanor would make a rotten Slytherin. She is not particularly cunning, subtle, or manipulative. Elanor prefers for things to be straight-forward, and struggles with nuance. Although she has a few goals in life, there is a serious lack of the trademark ambition of the snakes. So, she broke a tradition spanning back through several generations of her lineage. As for other houses, she is quite hard-working, like a Hufflepuff. Even though she struggles in a couple of her classes, she spends almost all of her leisure time on improving on those subjects. A little hard work, or even a lot of it, is not something to be afraid of. There are also traits of hers that would have made her suited for Ravenclaw. For example, though she is not terribly perceptive, Elanor is intelligent. What she lacks in common sense, she makes up for in book smarts. She reads a lot, and has an insatiable curiosity for certain subjects.

In the end, though, it was Gryffindor for which she was best suited. She has a strong sense of "right" and "wrong." She is ruled by her heart. Elanor may often seem to be quite different than her house mates, but at heart she is where she belongs. As she matures, her placement will make a lot more sense, as more of the typical Gryffindor house traits begin to manifest.
Position: (Subject to mod approval) None.

ROLEPLAY SAMPLE -- PLEASE ENSURE THAT THIS IS IN THIRD PERSON NARRATIVE POINT OF VIEW
The library was fairly quiet today, and Elanor sat at her usual table in the far corner. She glanced around her to check that no one was nearby, before reaching into her book satchel and pulling out an envelope. Although she recognized the script on it, Elanor did not know to whom the writing belonged. Tucking a stray bit of hair behind her ear, she carefully broke the seal on the envelope and slid out the parchment within. As her eyes scanned poem, her cheeks flushed red. She did not wholly comprehend the meaning of the words, and yet on some level she understood that it was a bit scandalous. If only she knew who it was who kept owling these letters.
