Monday April 10th, morning. raven_annabelle March 27 2007, 03:51:41 UTC
Ben was tired this morning. IT was way too early to be up, but that's how life was sometimes. He'd already stopped by the Owlery and mailed a letter home. Now it was time to get some reading done and try not to fall asleep.

This plan didn't work too well though, as he sat in an alcove, his eyelids felt heavier and heavier and then he was sleeping. Silly Ben.

David walked past his sleeping brother in the alcove on his way to breakfast, paying no mind to Ben. He hadn't even noticed him, even though in the back of his mind he thought of how strange it was that someone was just sleeping in the hallway. But then again, how strange was Hogwarts all of the time.

So on he went to breakfast, not paying any mind to that bum in the alcove. David had a very enjoyable breakfast as he ate rather slowly, taking his time with his food. It was particularly delicious this morning. Or so he contemplated as he walked past the alcove again.

"..Wait." David stopped dead in his tracks and took a double take. "Ben?" His brother had been the bum in the alcove. "Benjamin Baker," David said, wrapping his arm around his brother's shoulder. "Wake up."

Ben was vaguely aware that someone was trying to wake him up. He grumbled a bit and realized that it was David. "Hey... tell mum to make waffles? I'm in the mood for waffles." Why was it so early?

As his awareness of where he was increased, Ben looked around. "Oh... bugger. We're at school, aren't we? What... what time is it? What day is it?"

He glanced down at the textbook he was holding. Oooh, Charms. "I don't suppose you want to help me with Charms?"

David looked at Ben oddly. Waffles? Mum? Was it he who was mistaken and they were really at home? He glanced around, knocking on the walls, greatly desiring it to be so. Alas, it was not. He laughed at Ben instead, acting as if he knew all along.

"Um, it's morning and it's after breakfast. And uhh...it's Monday and I think it's April 9th. Or it could be the 10th. Maybe it's not even April," he said, rubbing the back of his head. He was now rather confused. "Adhering to the Roman calendar is a form of prison and entrapment. Ben, you shouldn't even bother yourself with such Neanderthal habits. It's rubbish."

David looked at the Charms book. Ahh, he had that later today. It would be excellent times as he had studied his Charms book last night just to beat that damned Georgiana. She couldn't be more revolting and annoying. Couldn't she just accept he was better at everything? Foolish girl.

"Uhhh...yeah sure. What do you really need help on?"

Tuesday April 11th, Evening, Close the Library bookishbrenna March 27 2007, 15:42:40 UTC
Brenna walked down the halls, in a cautiously good mood. She was going to go find a remote spot to study, not wanting to be in the distracting atmosphere of the common room in the evening, nor in the library which tended to be clogged with desperate fifth years studying for O.W.L.s.

In her bag she carried her Potions book, as well as a few other books, of the just-for-fun reading material sort. Her intention was to perhaps find an empty classroom, or even just a quiet corner in which she could sit without being bothered. She hummed a song she'd heard on the WWN as she walked around a corner.

Bri was one of those desperate fifth years studying for O.W.L.s, but she'd decided to leave the library for a bit, because she was beginning to go a bit cross eyed from all the studying and a bit of food wouldn't be entirely unwelcome, either, since she'd basically skipped dinner in favour of study.

She'd finally convinced herself that a short break would be okay, only ten minutes or so and then she'd get back to her studying, so here she was, bag filled with books and slung over her shoulder, heading down the same corridor that Brenna had just turned into.

"Brenna!" she greeted her sister excitedly when she saw her. It was odd that they should share a House and yet see each other so infrequently, but the closer exam time came, the more Bri was burying herself in preparing, which meant she barely saw Tim lately, let alone anyone else.

"Oh!" Brenna exclaimed, turning towards Bri's voice, she gave a sort of uncharacteristic surprised giggle, "How funny! I never see you in the common room, and here were are meeting in the halls. Must be a sister thing, mustn't it?"

She was genuinely excited to see her sister. It'd been far too long. Of late she'd been spending more time with her little cousin Pearline, and while Pearline was very pleasant company, Brenna just plain missed Bri.

"Well, well," she said, walking over to Bri, "how've things been?"

Bri couldn't blame Brenna. She loved her cousin and all, but she'd take Brenna's company over Pearline's any day. Then again, she'd take Brenna's company over most people's.

"Must be!" she agreed with a grin, even if it was more likely that she was just spending more time in the library than anywhere else these days. Whatever it was, it was really nice to see her sister.

"Oh, not bad," she answered honestly, though she bit her lip just a little. "Just obsessing about OWLs, but you know how that goes..."

Tuesday, April 11th - Just before lunch, on the way to the GH derek_bly March 28 2007, 02:11:39 UTC
Life was treating Derek pretty well these days. He was doing his best not to question it and his biggest concern at the moment was heading off to lunch and wondering who would be around to sit next to today. Probably it was safe to join Darin and Taylor at the Puff table finally. They were a good lot, Hufflepuffs, but a loss was a loss and they had been in good position prior to that loss. Ah, well. After being well enough to talk without rambling nonsense (more than usual), Darin hadn't seemed too bitter. Then again, maybe he'd lost the brain cells that would have reminded him it was Derek that had knocked him off of his broom a few of those times.

Not that Darin wouldn't have done the exact same thing to Derek if he'd been less of a showboat and wanted to play beater.

Louise ran through the hallway in her gym shorts and a t-shirt. She'd had a free period the block before, and decided to use her time for her daily run. It had been an excellent run. So excellent that she couldn't dream of walking once she'd gotten inside the castle.

She was getting a bit tired, though. To keep her pace up, she set up a beat of some funky techno song in her head and set her strides to it. Had her focuse been on where she was going rather than keeping up her speed, she might have noticed her fellow fifth year ravenclaw turning the corner.

She squealed when she hit Derek and went flying off balance and onto the floor. She scowled at the ground before looking at what she had deemed a problem. "Derek Bly!" She huffed with a point. "You threw off my beat!"

A whole mess of blond ran into Derek, and though his first instinct was to make sure the girl was okay, as he started to offer a hand up he realized who it was and his expression flattened. "Oh." The hand dropped and he straightened. You'd think Louise would know by now to watch where she was going when she ran around corners.

For a moment Derek wished that badge of Hannah's really was his so he could take points for endangering fellow students or running into a Prefect or something. Surely, had the power been his, he could have come up with a reason; never mind that it was his own house he'd be robbing.

"You ran into me," he reminded, clearly unimpressed. "You know there's all sorts of open ground outside for that kind of thing."

The day had been so promising. Louise thought as she got up and dusted herself off. She had been in a good mood before, but now she was aggrivated and had a bruised bum.

"You were walking too. Just because I was moving faster doesn't mean it's not your fault." She had already convinced herself that it wasn't completely her fault. It was a combined effort, wrong place wrong time, kind of deal.

Louise started stretching, starting with her arms before she retorted to Derek. "For your information, I was running outside. I just didn't stop when I came in." She paused for a second, her speach and her stretching, and then added, "And I can run inside if I want to."

Monday, 10 April 2006, Lunchtime, Nigel's Office nigel_klyn March 30 2007, 03:17:01 UTC
By the light of a lamp and the midday sun, Nigel sat amidst his pile of books and stared at the paper in his hand. When would the students learn that grammar and penmanship counted with him? Sighing, he began to mark the errors he found with red ink. His leg ached terribly, and the spot behind his eyes was beginning to follow suit. This was the third essay tonight that failed to follow proper paragraph limitations, and it irritated him ( ... )

The big secret to picking locks, a strange boy once told Jelly, is that it’s easy. Anyone can do it. Especially if they know how to have fun in the process.

Still, she’d rather be having lunch.

Jelly sighed and returned her attention to the little kingdom of pins and springs guarding the door. Hopefully this was this room’s window that her prism crane had flown in. A little ingenuity and a lot of old blueprints had given Jelly a fairly dependable understanding of Hogwarts’ deceptive architecture, but it remained a geometric puzzle at the best of times. (And lately Jelly was experiencing anything but the best.)

Stupid wind draft. Stupid paper crane. Stupid impossible to replace precious prism paper. Stupid grandpa who can’t remember which continent his only grandchild’s on. Stupid Tristan coming back from the de-wait, how did that one sneak in ( ... )

Bit by bit, the enchantment on the paper came clear to Nigel. It was intricately woven and complex, combining elements of transfiguration, old alchemy, and advanced charms. The professor marveled at it, trying to think of how it might be replicated - he did not know whether he could, but it would be fun to try.

A click resounded softly through the room, which he ignored at first. But when it came again, both the wand and the paper went dark. Nigel's eyes flicked toward the door, and he tensed, readying his wand to blast the intruder if necessary. Several more clicks (Nigel had added a bit of complexity to the lock with magic, but he hated unraveling spells to get into his office, so he had not bothered to charm it unopenable) and the door swung open, revealing a young Slytherin girl loudly proclaiming her victory over the lock in flowery prose. Nigel relaxed, a slight smile tugging at the corners of his mouth, and waited for her to notice him.

Room service? He smiled, shaking his head. "I believe your delivery has already ( ... )

"Your bird had an encounter with my curtain."

“No worries; it’s housebroken,” Jelly said amiably, lowering the bag. She peered at the torn slice of paper. “Emphasis on broken. Damn the devil, should’ve know it’d be a bad idea to have Gwendal chase the silly thing; the feathered psycho always loses control when he gets too close. That was from my last pack of prism paper, too; it’ll be another month at least before that sandbrained loon in Cairo remembers which continent I’m on and sends a refill. This is such a-”

Whatever Jelly was going to say next was waylaid by the sight of bookshelves. Jelly may have been a Slytherin in dress and ambition, but she was an Ashworth at heart; knowledge was always a lure and an old book was always a temptation worth noticing. Eyes drawn to a long line of Arabic calligraphy gleaming softly on calf leather, Jelly ran a finger down the book spine, immediately curious and distracted.

“Kitab almu'sahhahat. What’s the kingdom’s transfigurations guru doing with the Book of Adjustments? I thought ( ... )

Thursday, April 13th, outside the Charms classroom, before dinner osiris_son March 31 2007, 16:17:15 UTC
Denys was lurking outside the Charms classroom hoping to catch Elanor after class. There was a dance coming up and while he assumed they would go together, it couldn't hurt to ask, could it? What if he was too late and somebody else had asked her already? Elanor might not have been the most popular girl at school but she didn't go completely unnoticed.

The Slytherin had to admit that he was a little nervous. 'Don't be stupid!' he berated himself. Even if somebody had asked, she wouldn't have said yes, right? But what if she thought that he wouldn't ask? What if Cole had asked her? Stupid Cole with his stupid chess. A scowl settled on the boy's face.
