Looked at another apartment today. It turned out to be in a neighborhood that looked even less salubrious than the one from Friday. The apartment was pretty in pictures but shabby in person. Plus the place had a peculiar odor. I told the landlord it wasn't what I'd been looking for.
Went through the lower parts of East Walnut Hills afterwards, jotting down numbers from For Rent signs. There was a pink late Victorian mansion with a sign saying "Luxury 2 Bedroom". Worth a shot.
