Well, Cincinnati was only brushed by the massive storm currently bearing down on the East Coast. We have ice in the trees, but it disappeared from the roads pretty quickly. Driving home today in ordinary rain was more hazardous than driving to work in the morning was.
So Cincinnati got lucky.
My parents, though, are iced in. They live about 60 miles north. Their power also went down, due to ice on the lines. So they're trying to read by candlelight, my mother says. I think they have gas heat, though, so they're not suffering from cold. (Worst-case scenario: they have a fireplace, and live on a wooded lot.) And they keep a well-stocked pantry. So I'm not worried.
BTW, have you all heard about the Category Five cyclone [hurricane] currently bearing down on Queensland, Australia? From what I gather, Australia has never been hit by a storm this big before. And there are a lot of people and some medium to large size towns in its path. Comparisons to Hurricane Katrina are not at all inappropriate: Katrina was a Cat 5 storm, too.
