Original fiction, part one million

I'm stuck on my editrx original fiction project. I really hoped that what I'd learned from fanfiction would make writing original fiction possible. Alas, it seems that it has not.

I'm where I always am: I have premises, but no plots. The possible plots that occur to me turn my stomach with their lameness.

Part of the problem is that, for any of my longstanding fictional universes, I don't want to write anything that really *changes* the status quo: I want my characters to still be where they started when and if I ever can write the Big Story that I've been hoping to write for so long. (I know -- at least intellectually -- that I can write something that draws on my fictional universes and later declare it non-canon. But part of me is convinced that if I write it, it becomes canon.)

Maybe this is all some variation on perfectionism. I've tried telling myself it doesn't have to be perfect, but I don't want to write something I think is *stupid*.
