Lenore couldn't believe she'd been thrown out. Well, she could, she just hadn't thought it would happen. Surely she should have been able to sneak into her old place of work, exchange some idle chatter and pick up a thing or two she'd left behind. And by left behind she meant things that would be useful to her that the Ashworth's couldn't procure with their ample piles of galleons. She just needed a glimpse at that text again... Someone had tattled however and although the building wasn't necessarily secured against people just walking in to visit or see how the government worked, apparently one of her former coworkers had a problem with someone no longer cleared for access rooting around in the libraries in the Department of Mysteries ( ... )

Ed was exhausted. Being in Auror training meant long hours and lots of hard work. It was like being in school all over again, but a lot more grueling.

It was worth it, though. He was pursuing his dream. He was going to actually be an Auror one day and that was pretty brilliant. Life in general was pretty brilliant, actually. He and Ashleigh were still in that amazing newleywed stage and he wasn't sure that he'd ever been happier.

Maybe it was naive of him to not be wholly aware of the state of the Ministry these days. Maybe it was just that he'd never been firmly on one side or the other of things. Either way, he was blissfully ignorant of how bad things were right now.

He'd been stuck in his own thoughts when he first stepped onto the lift, but as he glanced over, he saw the woman leaned back with her eyes closed. "Alright?" he asked her.

Lenore opened her eyes briefly when the lift doors opened but the only person to come in was a young looking bloke she didn't recognize. He wasn't a threat she knew and, call it biased pride but if she was going to be killed in a lift by someone just out of school, she thought maybe she ought to just give up now. Besides, he had that young look. Like he was happy to be here even though his first year (in near any Ministry position) couldn't be much better than hell. She doubted very much that he was going to take the initiative and finish her off for someone. It was unlikely he even knew whether she belonged or didn't. Lenore let her eyes close again and paid him no mind until he spoke.

Concern. And it nearly sounded honest. Lenore let her head fall forward and studied him more seriously. He looked honest. Obviously new. "As far as these things go," she said cryptically. What was she doing here? She should have known better. Just resign yourself to being a shiny oddity for the Ashworths to have at their disposal and ( ... )

Ed really hadn't had the time to memorize every name and face that did or didn't belong. Besides, the Ministry had good security. She wouldn't be here if she wasn't supposed to be, right?

He nodded politely at her answer, not sure if he believed her, but not about to question someone he didn't know. It wasn't like talking to Ashleigh or someone he was close to. It didn't seem appropriate to push. "I'm good. Exhausted, but so it goes when you're just starting Auror training, right?" He flashed her a grin, genuinely happy to be here. Sure, it was hard work, but he was here. That was pretty amazing.

An Auror? Lenore's entire composure changed. Lightened. She straightened from the wall and stared at the bloke with a smile that was nothing if not amused. Perhaps too amused. Someone that didn't know her might even think it was a predatory look. Of a surety, Lenore was of the opinion that she'd stumbled on a shiny new toy- well, Mac's toy.

"You're one of Mac's new recruits," she grinned. It wasn't a question. If he was an Auror he was Mac's. Likely that spoke well for the boy. Still. He was so new and happy. "Oh, that's brilliant." It was too good. "How is he these days?" Maybe she should stop by and bother the grumpy bastard ( ... )

"Yeah. You know him?" Ed wasn't all that surprised. They all worked in the same place, so why shouldn't she know the man, right? It certainly made random elevator conversation easier when there was something to talk about.

"He's.. working us hard. I don't know. I don't really know him well," he added. His boss wasn't exactly one to talk about much that didn't relate to the job. The man was tough, stoic. Ed liked him a lot, but he didn't really know how to answer the question of how he was.

"I'm Ed, by the way," he said, extending his hand to the woman. Introductions were only polite, right?

Lenore smiled to herself. "You could say that."

She wasn't sure that anyone knew Mac. Not really. He was that sort of person. But as far as these things went, Lenore thought she could claim to understand what went on in his head better than most. Yes, she did miss him a bit ( ... )
