Lenore opened her eyes briefly when the lift doors opened but the only person to come in was a young looking bloke she didn't recognize. He wasn't a threat she knew and, call it biased pride but if she was going to be killed in a lift by someone just out of school, she thought maybe she ought to just give up now. Besides, he had that young look. Like he was happy to be here even though his first year (in near any Ministry position) couldn't be much better than hell. She doubted very much that he was going to take the initiative and finish her off for someone. It was unlikely he even knew whether she belonged or didn't. Lenore let her eyes close again and paid him no mind until he spoke.

Concern. And it nearly sounded honest. Lenore let her head fall forward and studied him more seriously. He looked honest. Obviously new. "As far as these things go," she said cryptically. What was she doing here? She should have known better. Just resign yourself to being a shiny oddity for the Ashworths to have at their disposal and call it good. Lenore sighed and nodded his direction. "You?" It was sort of an odd way to start a conversation but he'd opened his mouth. Lenore had to do something while she waited to get out of here- or came up with another plan to get what she wanted.

Ed really hadn't had the time to memorize every name and face that did or didn't belong. Besides, the Ministry had good security. She wouldn't be here if she wasn't supposed to be, right?

He nodded politely at her answer, not sure if he believed her, but not about to question someone he didn't know. It wasn't like talking to Ashleigh or someone he was close to. It didn't seem appropriate to push. "I'm good. Exhausted, but so it goes when you're just starting Auror training, right?" He flashed her a grin, genuinely happy to be here. Sure, it was hard work, but he was here. That was pretty amazing.

An Auror? Lenore's entire composure changed. Lightened. She straightened from the wall and stared at the bloke with a smile that was nothing if not amused. Perhaps too amused. Someone that didn't know her might even think it was a predatory look. Of a surety, Lenore was of the opinion that she'd stumbled on a shiny new toy- well, Mac's toy.

"You're one of Mac's new recruits," she grinned. It wasn't a question. If he was an Auror he was Mac's. Likely that spoke well for the boy. Still. He was so new and happy. "Oh, that's brilliant." It was too good. "How is he these days?" Maybe she should stop by and bother the grumpy bastard.

It was possible that Mac could help her, though...no. Lenore was inclined not to get herself in a position to be wrapped up in all of that again. But he'd probably do it if she asked. If he could. It was very tempting, now that she was here again, to fall into old routines and bother the head Auror while he was working. She missed it a bit; probably a sign she was getting over holding him partly responsible for what had happened. Assuming he was still feeling guilty (and he would be) that was certainly a point she could use in her favor, if need be. Lenore didn't entirely care to manipulate Mac but a girl couldn't afford to over look advantages. It was play to keep in mind at any rate. No one else was going to watch out for her, had to do it herself.

"Yeah. You know him?" Ed wasn't all that surprised. They all worked in the same place, so why shouldn't she know the man, right? It certainly made random elevator conversation easier when there was something to talk about.

"He's.. working us hard. I don't know. I don't really know him well," he added. His boss wasn't exactly one to talk about much that didn't relate to the job. The man was tough, stoic. Ed liked him a lot, but he didn't really know how to answer the question of how he was.

"I'm Ed, by the way," he said, extending his hand to the woman. Introductions were only polite, right?

Lenore smiled to herself. "You could say that."

She wasn't sure that anyone knew Mac. Not really. He was that sort of person. But as far as these things went, Lenore thought she could claim to understand what went on in his head better than most. Yes, she did miss him a bit.

"I'm sure he is," Lenore agreed. "It's a hard job. No doubt he doesn't see any point in letting you off easy. Better over-prepared than under." After a moment she smirked. "Though he's not likely to open up to you," she started in confidential tones, "just for the record, he's not as hard as he pretends to be. He just likes everyone scared." Not that the bloke was likely to believe her. Or that it would do him any good. Sheer stubborn persistence was the only reason Lenore had worn Mac down. She doubted anyone working under him would be allowed much of a break.

Ed. Well, wasn't that just lovely. Lenore stepped closer to shake his hand, telling herself not to play the name-association game. Hardly fair that. To either of them. He was a perfectly nice Auror-in-training. "Lenore Grey." She managed a tight lipped smile. "Unspeakable. Or, former anyway." Considering the unofficial Ministry blacklist she was probably on, it was true enough either way.
