Ashleigh didn't know it yet, but she and Ed were about to get a pet. He didn't know what, yet, but he'd decided what their apartment really needed some form of magical creature. Why he had come to this conclusion, he didn't know. He also didn't have much of a clue as to what he wanted, so he was wandering rather aimlessly around the Magical Menagerie, trying to see if anything jumped out at him.

Gerard had stopped in, mostly because he needed to get some more things for Pearline's pets, but also just to look around. You never know what sort of animal could happen to be useful.
"Oh, I'm sorry," he said as he accidentally backed up into someone while trying to get a better look. "That was my fault."

Someone else might have snapped at being backed into, but Ed tended to shake things off - or to not show it when he was annoyed. Whichever the case was here, he steadied himself and flashed the man a smile.

It was time to get off of this island, that was all there was too it. Perhaps she shouldn't wait for an assignment from her new patrons. The Ashworths were paying her well enough. Something told her they would so much as bat an eye if she said she was going to find something to do with herself elsewhere. Hell, that was probably the best way to dig up interesting prizes for them. Get herself lost in a lovely villa somewhere and stumble on local history. Sounded like a plan to Lenore. Get far away from all of the madness descending on this side of the Channel.

Even if it was what it probably was, the occasional large scale spread of sickness amongst an admittedly sick prone population, she didn't like it. Too many bad things were going on.
