Good afternoon, class. As I am sure you are all well aware, Halloween is coming up this month. I am guessing that the majority of you have already made plans for holiday, correct? Trick or Treating still seems to be one of the most popular ways to spend it, although most students your age nowadays, I've noticed, tend to be taking the opportunity to hold large house-parties instead. Whatever your plans, how many of you actually know why the holiday exists in the first place? It hasn't escaped me that too many people nowadays have no idea what the holiday is about, yet still flippantly join in the celebrations with not the slightest clue as to why it takes place! Why celebrate an event that you do not understand nor appreciate the history behind it at all?
I'm in despair! People blindly celebrating without knowing the history has left me in despair!
This is how traditions and cultures get forgotten by our overly casual modern societies, especially when those traditions and cultures do not originate from our own country. History gradually fades over time because society doesn't bother to remember. Everyone, I urge you all to become at least mildly cultured individuals who know what you are taking part in.
Ah, just a quick heads-up, but I don't participate in Trick or Treating, so those considering taking the long treck over to my home in hopes of recieving candy will find themselves dissapointed.
((OOC: He says that, but if students feel like hassling him over it then he'll probably give in))
