new years shmew years

new years resolutions are stupid! my goals are the same as always: get good grades, do what i want, no stress, no fear.

my new years eve was FUN - we hung out with chris and kristina darnell along with charles and lisa and one of kristina's friends from the library. got drunk completely from champagne - took some killer portraits of kristina and chris, all of which looked ridiculous. looked at their wedding albums and talked about female dictator names for their new cat. listened to TERRIBLE music until me and ryan discovered they had both "rumors" by fleetwood mac and "team boo" by mates of state on record. SOLVED.

i am going to YIG this week (Youth in Government) as an advisor. so for four days i will be living in the minneapolis hilton, dressing biz caj, and living off of skyway food. my job will be teaching a group of eighth graders about all aspects of the legislature, court systems, cabinets, lobbyists, and the media. i'm really excited because i've always wanted to go as an advisor. (YIG is a geeky side of me that is only beaten by the weekend i went to german camp)

my wedding is in a little over eight months. i've started to buy the first crap - programs, bubbles, little easels for the place cards, and necklaces for the ladiez in the wedding. i have a church, a reception site, a photographer, a dj, a honeymoon, a choir, marraige counseling, an organist, a florist . . . only a million more things to go.

i had an discussion with my aunt about if i was keeping my last name (which i'm not). she was like "well, thats one part of you that isn't feminist". ARGH! my last name is smith, ok! not something cool like elton, harrigan, axt, szczech, motari, hainsworth . . . it's smith. and i know johnson is also the most common name on the planet, but at least it will be a change and i get to rework my signature. i have a brother to carry on the smith name along with a hundred million other people around the world. some people have really deep reasons for changing or not changing their name. my reason is that i belong to a facebook group of emily smiths that has 350 members and i want to write emily johnson down.

just a rant!
