i am so very tired right now.
i was awake from 4pm yesterday until about 2pm today.
straight thru.
no naps.
thanks to my procrastination (wow that word looks long right now for some reason) with homework.
and i am up, once again, doing the same.
i might have gotten at least a couple hours of rest if it hadnt been for my little adventure last night:
so... highly interesting night for a sunday night. especially for a sunday night in ocala. we'll start from the top, shall we?
so, instead of alexia buying me a tent for my birthday, my mom decided she wanted to do it because the video camera i want is too expensive for her to get right now (the second most espensive sony handycam, in case anyone's feeling especially generous). my mom doesnt really have a whole lot of extra time to go tent shopping though, so we offered to go for her. so she gave us some cash, and we headed out to ocala to get one at the wal-mart supercenter that dani works out, this way we get a cheap tent, plus a discount, plus we get to hang out with dani. totally sweet.
so. we get the tent. dani also gets me a sweet sleeping bag (much thanks, dude) we pay and leave. now... dani's crippled ass needs lexi to drive her van back to her house because when she was taken to the hospital from work, her van was left there and she hadnt been back to pick it up yet. so lexi and dani get in dani's van, and i follow them in my car to a gas station that is basically a part of walmart... kind of an extention of the w-m parking lot. so, we all gas up and go inside to pay and there's this crazy nervous (we just thought she was cracked out) woman inside who strikes up a random conversation with alexia about her piercings, asking her where she got them and then starts talking about her daughter who had her navel pierced and then got pregnant so it stretched and blah blah. so we finally rip away from this lady, and go outside and alexia realizes that she had left her purse in the drivers seat of dani's van, and it is now gone. right before they went inside to pay, alexia asked dani if she should lock the doors, dani said dont worry about it because 1) we were only going to be inside for like 30 seconds (except for that lady distracting us) and secondly, this part of ocala is just full of old people.
as soon as lexi realized her purse was gone, i immediately thought of the fidgety lady inside who was distracting us as we were trying to leave. i noticed that she was really nervous, and also looking past us, and outside a lot.
we tear apart dani's van and my car, and when we were positive it was nowhere around, lexi got on the phone and cancelled her bank account and had everything transferred to a new one, while dani got on the phone with the cops, who would soon be on their way.
cop shows up - he's a really nice guy. we give a discription of the purse and the woman inside, who coincidentally, dani recognises as the daughter of a woman she used to work with at the track in ocala. dani also got in the phone with a different woman who used to work at the track and got the scoop on the woman we saw in the store. apparently, her name is suzie and she's pretty shady with a history of a drug problem, as well as having problems with money. the woman also tells dani that suzie's supposed daughter is not more than 12 years old, and may actually be a boy. so that whole pregnancy story is probably bullshit. but, suzie used to come pick up her mom from work every day in a green pick-up, and dani also saw a green pick-up outside the gas station with a man in it, assumed to be suzie's significant other of some sort. things are starting to come together.
i go inside and ask the woman behind the counter if she can rewind the tapes and watch them, and shes being really shady with me also. she says that she cant do that, and that we would have to call the cops in order to get a copy of the tape, and on top of that, we wouldnt be able to see anything on the tape, even if we did get a copy of it. kind of strange... why have cameras at your gas station if you cant see anything on them? whatever, i go outside, we wait for mr. cop.
mr. cop is a good cop. he lifted some prints off of dani's car, hoping to find a match with the man seen in the pick-up. by this time, the cashier that was working at the time this all happened has booked, and different guy is now working the register. mr. cop goes in and asks about the cameras, and we see a glimpse of the screen that they have, which displays a PERFECT view of dani's van. so the last cashier lady was lying. very suspicious indeed. however, they cant rewind anything because apparently the videos taken are not recorded on tapes - they're done digitally and are recorded up in the main branch in tallahassee. the guy working tells the cop to come back at 5:30am, which he agreed to do.
after all this and giving the cop lots of information, we went over to wal-mart to see if any of their cameras could have picked anything up. no luck. we go back outside and lexi gets on the phone with her mom, when dani and i decide to walk up the road for a bit, hoping the people looked through the purse, saw there was no cash in it, and then just threw it out. as we were walking, mr. cop drove up and we told him what we were doing, and he did the same in his car using his spotlight. we continued searching, i looked in the drains on the side of the road and everything, and then looked up and noticed that he had pulled over and had his lights on. he got out of the car and i saw him look at something, but couldnt tell if he picked anything up. he got back in his car and pulled a U-turn and came back - he had found her purse.
So dani and i got to go for a little joy ride back to where lexi was, where mr. cop took some photos out of her purse and dusted them for prints. all that was missing was her checkbook, and a knife that her uncle had given her. so we wrapped everything up with mr. cop and started heading back to dani's, me following lexi and dani in dani's van. when we pulled out of wal-mart and then turned onto another road, i noticed that someone was following me. they were driving kind of weird, and would speed up every time i started going over a hill, like they were trying to stay on my ass, but then backing off everytime i hit a straightaway. luckily, the next time we had to turn, i stopped a little longer, and they went to turn right and i looked at them... and they were just a really old couple who didnt know how to drive. sweet relief.
since we know that this suzie lady picks up her mom every day from work, we're thinking about showing up at the track tomorrow just before she gets off to see what suzie's reaction will be if she sees us standing there, and to get a plate number off the green truck to see if we can find anything. the way things are looking now, if we can get more evidence on these people, both dani and lexi are going to press charges. we're hoping to nail these suckers.
