A sharp shrill echoed in the vast space of the dark room and seemed to be louder than it really was. The phone kept ringing until the machine finally clicked. A generic message played before the sound of the person was revealed. It was Nino again, saying that he was calling because he was worried and that he wished Ohno would call back or text even before hanging up.
Ohno kept staring out of the window in his bedroom, slightly keeping the curtain open to see out in the dark night. He wasn't really looking at anything in particular because he had fallen into a trance. The scene in his head kept repeating as if his mind was punishing him...
During the filming of their new PV, the members were getting dressed into their attire for the next scene. They usually dressed in separate rooms, but because of the time crunch and lack of space in the studio, they had to deal. It didn't bother Ohno much, he liked being with the other members, especially Nino. The general conversation they started had turned to their relationships. Most of the guys usually kept quiet about it because of media and who may be listening, but for some reason it was talked about as if it was nothing big. Nino finally chirped in and told them the truth.
"You know that actress I've been seeing lately? We're getting serious now, I think she may be the one," Nino mentioned as if it was normal. The other guys commented on how happy they were for him... except for Ohno. Being the usually quiet one, this was no different. He kept to himself as he slipped on the last shoe on his foot before shifting his pant leg over it. Nino didn't really think twice about it, as he thought that Ohno had said something but was drowned out by the other members.
They all continued with the filming as normal. According to Ohno, it paid off to be an actor sometimes; it was easier to hide your real emotions during important things...
Ohno wiped away the tear that raced down his cheek. He couldn't believe it. The many years that he knew Nino, he always thought they had an understanding. He always thought that he and Nino would be the ones that were the true soul mates. All of the moments they shared, all the hugs, kisses, cuddles... what were they all to Nino? Was all of that just to go along with the fan service? Was that all Nino was doing?
Ohno could remember all the times he raced to Nino's side just to be his shoulder to cry on... or to assure him that everything would be okay in the end... to make him compliment himself when he felt at his absolute lowest... and to hold him during the night when he didn't want to be alone...
Did Nino really forget all of that? Did it really mean nothing to him?
Ohno left the window to head back to his bed to find his phone flashing again. He saw he had quite a number of text messages and missed calls but he just tossed the phone onto the bedside table. Every time he saw the phone light up with some kind of notification, especially from Nino, it broke his heart even more. He didn't want to deal with it anymore until he really had to. Once again, he had to go to sleep wondering what kind of excuse to give as to why he didn't respond to any of the calls or texts...
He knew he could always lie and say he was out all night fishing; he knew they wouldn't really question that.
As he sat on his bed holding his pillow tight to his chest, Ohno realized that couldn't find himself ever being truly happy for Nino being with someone else... so he would have to continue to fake it... but he knew that in the end, if Nino really did come back... then he never truly lost him in the first place...
Ohno was willing to wait for that day...
