For my mom's birthday I got a Groupon for a sunset cruise around Boston harbor. Among her presents was this tiny pecan pie:
which we put the hurtin on with our pocketknives...
A weird thing I noticed about my mom is that she'll drive really long distances to hang out with me and then only stay for like 2 hours. I totally thought we were going to go out to dinner after or just dick around for awhile but as soon as we got off the boat she was like Seeya! It's sort of confusing.
As much as I adore my friends sometimes my fantasy is just to be left the hell alone with a book for 3 hours. I am reading Run Rabbit, which I found upstairs in the mill on the free book cart, and Stranger From a Strange Land, which Aimee lent me for my birthday. After work on Saturday I went to Dexter park and gave myself a pedicure.
The excess swelling from New York has gone down and now my foot just has its regular old swelling. It was a mistake to think that I am ready to walk to work again. I should just be grateful to walk around my kitchen.
Aimee's kittens... they are developing such cute little faces now. If you hold one for too long Mama Onyx comes out of her nest in the closet to collect it.
On Sunday I took a little road trip through South County. I went blueberry picking at Pinehurst farm because I realized I haven't made any serious berry pies this summer
bought green tomatoes from someone's front yard for 25 cents each
ate a turkey BLT in this weird abandoned garden next to the South Kingston library
Tried to go to the beach but it was horribly crowded (labor day, duh) so I decided to skip it and go some other time. I checked out a new place to launch the canoe on the way home and after a solid nap, Julian helped me action this apple chicken curry from the Homegrown Chicago cookbook Z sent me for my birthday. It smelled amazing but just wasn't spicy enough. I like my face to melt off a little bit when I eat Indian food. Sometimes you just need a good cry.
What are you talking about, I don't let my cats up on the table.
fried green tomatoes for breakfast
not really loving this batter, actually. It's easy enough to do yourself with an egg and milk dip and a seasoned cornmeal dredge. But I'm a souvenir junkie so I had to.
big hair.
Another random dinner. When I put "make awesome dinner" on my to-do list, it gets done.
