You know what annoys me? (A lot of things, I know) I really, really love So You Think You Can Dance. I like learning about people, I like seeing different types of dances, I like seeing amazing contemporary pieces, I like hearing music I may not have heard before...but I am sick and tired of the focus on how girls look. ALL THE GODDAMN TIME. But ( Read more... )

You need to sign onto chat so I can rage at you using more than 130 characters.

And dude, I fucking hate that about SYTYCD. It's so sexist and condescending.

Sorry about that.

It's so obnoxious! It's like...I really want to like this show wholeheartedly, but I just can't, and it drives me crazy.

(Completely unrelated, but I like to whine at you - I don't think I'm going to get to play hockey or soccer this year, and that kind of depresses me.)

(You live in Canada. Can't you find an intramural team or a pick-up game - what are those called again? shinny? - or something?)

(Well, the intramural teams would have to be with Dal - the larger university that my school is a part of - but I don't know how easy that's going to be, and the women's league in Halifax has already done team sign-ups. Plus I don't know how easy it would be to get around the city without a car.)

There's such a double standard with the comments on SYTYCD. I *love* the show a *lot*, but the judges are such creepsters to the girls. And I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with them commenting on how a dancer looks, but there's just something about the way they talk about the girls on the show that is a little gross. Maybe if they made the same types of comments to the boys, then it wouldn't bother me? Because then it would at least be fair!

Yes, that's exactly it - they are such creepsters. I think it's totally fine to be like, "You look hot, and you sold it in this dance," but then I want to hear more about the DANCE, not for everyone to just continue talking how hot she is and making slightly creepy comments about the older male judges "enjoying" the outfit.

And it's very, very rare that any of the female judges say something about how hot the male contestants are.

I think Adam Shankman did once! Haha, I was kind of excited about it, ngl. But then, Adam is one of the only judges I can stand on the American version, most nights.

Yeah, same here. I love Adam so, so much. And I think I vaguely remember the time you're talking about. But I feel like even his sexuality is...almost not allowed? I don't know.

There was also that thing a couple years ago when he made extremely homophobic comments about the two male ballroom dancers who auditioned together. Then the dancers came back the next year and Nigel was like, "Some people pointed out that my comments were rude, so I applaud your bravery!" It was such BS. Nigel's such a tool.

Yup, I remember them. He was legitimately disgusted, and it was just awful.

Yeah, it was the most awkward, second-hand embarrassing moment, and it didn't have to be. The judges made it so and then blamed the dancers. I was so horrified.
