How does your brain create an OTP?

This question has actually been floating around in my head for awhile. Probaby since poisontaster mentioned something about no longer writing really writing j2. And certainly her AKB verse is a compelling reason for jeffrey/jensen. not_refined has managed to sell me on that as a pairing once or twice as well. I love both these stories, but they create some weird ( Read more... )

I apparently imprint on my OTPs like a baby duck - the first one I see is it for me, forever. I have no interest in other pairings, I don't care how highly recommended the stories are. If it's a TV show I watch, I latch on to whatever couple has the most chemistry, even if they never get together and/or are with other people on the show. It will be Kate/Sawyer forever for me on LOST, no matter what. I'm shipping Sheldon/Penny hard on Big Bang Theory, but most fans and TPTB don't see it. Oh, well, I'm OK being part of an enthusiastic little fandom.

I don't watch Supernatural, and have no interest in Sam/Dean. A friend sent me her favorite J2 fics along with some pictures of the boys and I was a goner. I don't watch any of the Stargates, but the same friend got me started on Daniel/Cameron, even though Daniel/Jack has a much bigger following. I'm sure there are fantastic D/J stories out there, I just don't care.

So, I guess I'm not a good one to answer your question because there is *no* OTP shifting for me, ever. Boring, but there it is. Thanks for the question, though, because I had never really thought about why I like who I like before. It was fun to consider.
