Angel's office, Hyperion, Saturday night

Jan 12, 2008 19:18

Angel was in his office.

Any resemblance between his work and an attempt to be all avoidy was sheer coincidence.

He was only moderately avoidy. All avoidy would've involved hiding down in the basement.

So there.

A purple light was forming in the lobby, just out of eye range of the office door. The whooshing and crackling of a portal was probably audible up to the second floor, though.

With a curse and a thump, Parker tumbled out of the portal, slamming into the couch and dropping her overnight bag. "Damnit." She paused, and took stock for a second. "Anybody home?"

Angel facepalmed. There was the odd chance that if he was very, very quiet, they wouldn't notice he was here.

The portal zipped itself up with a last burst of light, and Parker picked up her bag and put it on the counter, then surveyed the lobby.

Dust motes spun.

A cricket chirped somewhere.

Parker considered, looking toward the stairs, then looked toward the office. Hmmm.

It wasn't like he couldn't hear her from wherever he was, if he was there. Which, playing the odds, meant....

"Don't make me play hide-and-seek, Angel. You do that, and shoes get thrown at the latest paint job again."

"I'll just make Logan fix it," Angel replied.

Then facepalmed when he realized that wasn't exactly silent.

Parker chuckled under her breath, then stalked toward the office door, pushing it open and settling in to a chair like she owned the place. Which, to be fair, she didn't. Not even a controlling interest, any more.

"So you weren't at the New Year's party, and I heard some details about Finals Week, and I'm hoping you're coping better than I have any reason to believe you would be." She raised her eyebrows. "Care to comment?"

"No?" Angel replied.

It was her own fault for asking, really.

"You keep bogarting words like that, you might have enough for an extra century or two," Parker pointed out, rolling her eyes. "Which is a concern, I guess. But not when it makes me drag them out of you by force." She tapped her fingers on the arm of the chair. "I'm sorry I couldn't be there. For what it's worth."

Angel shrugged, still doing that stoic thing. "Too many people were."

Speaking of people who had been....

Isabel had had Wyatt drop her off outside the Hyperion, hoping to avoid any sort of macho posturing. She entered the lobby and followed the sound of voices to the office.

Despite her nerves, she smiled as she stuck her head through the door. "Hi honey, I'm home."

Angel immediately gave Parker a look. "She'd better be talking about you."

Parker gave him a sardonic look right back. "Isabel never calls me 'honey.' She knows better. That leaves certain dead-heads who haven't paid their reality bills." She tilted her head back to smile at Isabel. "Nice timing."

"Angelic airways. Best way to travel ever," Isabel explained. "It was good? I thought I was going to be late. There was dancing."

Pulling over a chair, Isabel took a seat and made herself at home. "So hi! Nice to see you Angel. Did you Blackberry die? That'd be the only reason I could think of for you not to return my call."

"Or I haven't been possessed which means I still don't like talking. Phone or otherwise."

Dammit. He had a point.

"You're right," Isabel sighed. "My bad. I should have called repeatedly until you were forced to pick up." Although she had a feeling that more then likely that would have resulted in the phone getting busted. "I figured you needed some time though."

"Not my best week," Angel said. For him this was opening up and sharing.

Parker looked from Angel to Isabel, and grimaced. "Okay. I'm going to be back to get more out of you after you and Isabel have gotten over the incredibly awkward part here." For her, this was delicacy. She got to her feet, and told Isabel, "Yell if you need back up. I'll be within shoe range." She pointed at Angel. "Talk."

Then she wandered out, and in the distance they might hear, "Logan! I have more booze for you!"
