[ooc; telepathy 101]
What is Freya's power? Freya is a telepath. Basically, she reads your mind.
How does this work? Freya's power is always active, and has been since it activated on her prom night; to protect herself from going completely insane, she has learned how to narrow her focus to only what she can see. Casually just walking through, she'll pick up surface thoughts of the people around her; she can't help this. She can examine memories and images and deeper thoughts with more concentration and focus, but finds it easier to do so if she uses leading questions to get the subject thinking about what she wants to know. If she can't see, her power goes kind of haywire and all her control is out the window. Her dreams are generally not exactly her own, because she's sleep-telepathying. That is not really a word or a phrase but it sums up what I mean. She can speak to people mentally, but she can't change their thoughts or memories.
ALSO: paying close attention to what someone is thinking, she can know what they're about to do moments before they do it -- like someone's telegraphing their movements, but more accurate.
What would my character notice? Uh...not a lot. Except maybe that this weird little brunette is quietly freaking out every now and again, or looking at people funny for no apparent reason.
Wow, sounds like godmoding to me. PLS NO. Aside from surface thoughts (which I still need mun cooperation for, thx u, because I don't know what your goddamn character is thinking), Freya will not actively read minds without a good reason, and with that reason I need cooperation and permission from the other mun involved. Telepaths are a pain in the ass to play, but I am gonna try and do it responsibly!
So she's not crazy, then? Nope. But she does occasionally have trouble coping with all the people around her -- in the last four years, she's learned to control it better, but there are still hard moments, and she will never like crowds. When she loses control, the quickest way for her to gain it back is for Brendan to intercede and get her to look at and focus on him.
Potentially there will be more added to this as it occurs to me.
