News and reviews.

Firstly, news. I just bought a friend and I tickets to see Joel Plaskett at Massey Hall in May. We're also getting autographed copies of Joel's upcoming triple (!!!!) album, and guaranteed seating in the first four rows of centre balcony. I'm so excited!

And now, reviews of my classes, as I provide mostly every semester.

Information in the Public Sphere: This is a required course, which means it's really fucking boring. There is a group project that is worth a good chunk of the final grade. My group of 4, including myself, has two people that aren't going to do any work. This means that I will be doing most of the work, as usual.
Exile in Guyville?: Popular Music and Gender: This is my favourite course by far. Feminism and popular music are two of my favourite things to study, and this course combines them perfectly. The prof is a big fan of indie rock and punk, just like me! We listen to music during class too.
The (Cult)ure of Genius: This course examines media representations of geniuses. It's a little dry right now, but once we get out of the 18th century I think it will pick up. We get to revisit childhood by reading Matilda and A Wrinkle in Time.
Sexuality in the Media: This course is interesting so far. The prof is a lesbian, so there is a lot of focus on queer culture. It's interesting though, so I don't mind.
Killer Culture: Mediations of War in the 20th and 21st Centuries: I'm not especially interested in war, but I decided to take this course because the prof is an awesome guy. Surprisingly I'm enjoying it a lot. We're reading a lot of interesting things, like Slaughterhouse-Five, 300, Johnny Got His Gun, and The Gate to Women's Country.
