"I know," Bill said quietly, glancing over at their sleeping daughter. It had been weighing on his mind ever since they had made the decision to move in with the Order. They would be in the thick of things then, and while Bill had no intention of letting Fleur get into any dangerous situations, the reality was it was entirely possible that something could happen to both of them.

They needed to be prepared. Just in case.

Bill crossed over to Fleur and sat down in the chair by the window.

"Do you have anyone in mind?"

Fleur looked down at her husband, eyes a little distant as she considered the quesiton itself.

Who would she trust to care for Gabrielle and Elizabet?

"I have no other family," She pointed out, flicking through the Weasley siblings in quick succession. "It would not be so much a legal obligation as a trust one, I think. Since we are in hiding..." Fleur waved one hand at the room, before smiling wryly. "So it would be someone also in hiding, yes?"

She was trying to think of this logically. Remove herself from what such a thing would mean...All the same, Fleur moved close enough so that she could put a hand on Bill's arm, in reassurance to herself.

It was such a difficult thing to consider - both of them gone and Elizabet all alone. At the touch of Fleur's hand on his arm, Bill reached out for her, tugging her down into his lap. He needed the reassurance as much as she did.

Her question had brought up something else that he had thought of before but hadn't yet said. Looking into her eyes, he was very serious as he said, "If anything happens to me, I want you to promise me that you'll take Elizabet and run as far as you can."

Fleur let herself be pulled down without resistance, tucking her head neatly underneath Bill's chin, though she leaned back to look up as he spoke.

Her hand clutched at his shirt--if anything happens to me--she didn't want anything to happen to either of them--any of them--

But neither of them did. It was simply--

Reality.

Fleur swallowed the protests on her tongue, and nodded instead. "I promise, William."

"...Promise me the same if anything happens to me." The words were deathly quiet, but they had to be said. For Elizabet, for Bill--Gabrielle...

Bill was silent, staring down at her with a rare intensity. Like Fleur, he didn't want to consider losing her, not after being apart for so long, but it was a harsh reality of the world they were living in. However, could he walk away if something happened to her?

He didn't think he would be able to. If someone were to hurt her... His heart clenched and he knew he wouldn't be able to run. He would be too busy hunting down the bastard who did it and ripping his heart out.

"I promise I'll keep Elizabet safe," he finally said. It was the best that he could do.

She understood what he wasn't saying--dipped her head, closed her eyes as she curled into Bill, concentrating on the feel of him breathing and alive beneath her. It was enough--that promise was enough. It was the most she could ask from him.

Fleur didn't open her eyes, but her hand reached for one of his. "Whom have you thought of?"

At least it was Bill. This conversation--he was the only person she could bring herself to say such things to. The thought that--she might not survive. They might not survive.

Elizabet--

No.

Mum and Dad. It was on the tip of his tongue, but he didn't say it. He couldn't. They were gone and there was no point dwelling on it, though they would have been brilliant grandparents.

He let out a deep breath, his fingers combing gently through Fleur's long blonde tresses.

He had been through each of his siblings and while he knew they would be fantastic uncles and aunt, he didn't think any of them were ready to assume responsibility of a child. Percy would never be an option, and the twins couldn't be considered while they were stuck in the Ministry. That left Charlie, Ron and Ginny.

"Ginny's too young and reckless," Bill began voicing his thoughts out loud.

Fleur's hand squeezed his, as if to prove she was there--for this, she needed to know he was there. Needed him to know she was there.

"Charles is reckless as well," Fleur's voice was suddenly flat, and she recognized this.

She hadn't forgiven her brother-in-law quite yet.

"Gabrielle likes Ronald." Ronald had also been missing for well over two years.

And how he would take the responsibility of two children?

"They are all young and reckless." It was almost an accusation, though not at Bill--more at the world in general.

Bill squeezed Fleur's hand back, knowing how tough it must be for her to think about someone else raising her baby.

"Gabrielle," he repeated, remembering that Fleur was Gabrielle's guardian. "How old is she now?"

So whoever they chose would be getting two children, should anything happen to both of them. That made it a lot more difficult.

"Thirteen." Fleur's tone warmed at the mention of her sister, though she was worried, as well--what would Gabrielle feel, if something were to happen to Fleur? After losing their mother...

"Fourteen this year." Fourteen in a world at war--she'd never wanted this life for her sister.

But if something were to happen--

At least Elizabet would have her aunt.

"Thirteen," Bill murmured, thinking. At least she was at school for most of the year, although what they would do when the holidays arrived, he didn't know. Fleur could take Elizabet to France for a few weeks then, he supposed, knowing Fleur would want to see her sister then.

"So whoever we choose is going to get a two year old and a thirteen year old."

Would his siblings accept Gabrielle if he and Fleur weren't here to smooth things over? he wondered.

"Yes." Fleur nodded, though he couldn't see the movement, with her head beneath his chin--but he could feel it, and that was enough. "Gabrielle knows Elizabet's, how do you say...quirks?"

Which was to say, the things Bill had learned in this little time of happiness; the things Fleur knew. The things only they knew.

Bill's arms tightened around his wife and he pressed a kiss to the top of her head.

"Perhaps," he said slowly, "we should name two people instead of one. To balance out the Weasley recklessness."

Fleur shifted, trying to get a look at Bill's face. Did he mean...?

"That would make a great deal more sense..." She trailed off, a little smile tugging at the corner of her lips despite the topic. She had just been so worried--but of course. She could always count on him to come up with an answer.

"We know someone who is the opposite of reckless," Fleur said, arching her eyebrows.

"That we do," Bill agreed, beginning to smile as well. "They make a good team and Gabrielle will help."

It was also a matter of running out of options. They had to be prepared. They had to pick someone and the number of people they knew and trusted had dwindled considerably.

"They do not always think they make a good team, do they?" The amusement was quite clear on Fleur's face now, as she looked up curiously. She knew Ronald well enough--but the other...she'd only had limited experience with.

"But they would do it." And that was spoken quietly, with a great deal of faith in the truth of the words.

After all--these were the two people Harry Potter had trusted most.
