"Well rather than assume, I thought it fitting to ask first," said Hermione slowly, giving the contents of the tin a stir with a kitchen spoon. She moved the beans off the flame and held a couple of pieces of bread over it to toast them up. After assembling two slices with heaping spoonfuls of beans on top, Hermione levitated the whole thing up and over the small break in the barrier near the roof. It lowered down until it was low enough for him to pluck from the air.

After she was finished with that, Hermione picked up the tin and dug the spoon into what remained. There wasn't much left, she'd been somewhat generous with his portion, but she wasn't that hungry and her stomach was churning anxiously.

Glancing over to her kit bag, she thought for a moment then looked back to Ron. "I could read aloud if you'd like. I brought a few books." Few being six and four of them were textbooks.

It was a stupid question and for the first time in a long time, Hermione felt like she had misplaced any sort of intelligence. Why on earth would he want to hear her read aloud? But she had nothing else to offer.
