I finished My Ishmael today. I liked it a lot, not quite as much as Ishmael, but still a hell of a lot. I just didn't underline as many things in this one. I dog-eared some pages, though. Things about the education system, mostly. I wish I had read The Story of B first, or known it existed. I was completely lost for about a paragraph near the end that referenced that one. Oh well, I will buy it next chance I get. Reid wants me to read another book...I forgot what it's called...but first I have to read Banker to the Poor because my IR professor lent it to me and I have to give it back to her and I haven't had much time to read lately so I should get started on it. It's about "micro-lending and the battle against world poverty" and it's by Muhammad Yunus, founder of the Grameen Bank. Dr. Roselle told me a bit about it, on one of those days where it seemed like she and I were having a conversation instead of her teaching the class...hehe. She had asked us what we'd learned that semester, in that casual but also enthusiastic way she does, and I told her that I was a lot more understanding about the world and why it is the way it is, but also a bit more depressed. She told me all about this book and prefaced it with saying, "you need to read-." So, I will. I miss that class. I decided to drop the cinema class I'm taking and add another international class...if I can. As of now they are all full. I suppose we will see once school starts. Oh, and Yunus won the Nobel Peace Prize.
Reid and I went to the Natural Science Center in Greensboro yesterday. Neither of us had been there in so long. When we got to the entrance I told him I remembered my school bus pulling up in front of the door and dropping us off for a field trip. I had tied a sweater around my waist with my watch in the pocket...for some reason I didn't want to wear the watch. Maybe it was in order to touch the sea creatures in that one exhibit. Anyway, I remember getting on the bus and realizing I didn't have my watch and just being so crushed. That reminds me of another watch I had, a pink and sparkly one that I was very distressed over when it broke. Sigh. Anyways, the Science Center is SO MUCH COOLER now!! They have a legit zoo with two tigers and some lemurs and wallabies and meerkats and monkeys! The tigers were beautiful, and they also have alpacas, which are pretty cute. We saw two little goats butting heads, but in a sort of practicing kind of way, like they were just gently warming up for a real fight. Also we pet a chincilla :) I don't think Reid knew what a chinchilla was before that. The volunteer who was in that building, the "discovery house," came up to us with a corn snake and was like, "do you want to pet a corn snake?" And...I didn't really know what to say so I was like sure, and I sort of tickled it with my index finger. Then he asked us if we wanted to see any other animals, and when he said that a chinchilla was one of the choices I got so excited!! He brought it out in a flowerpot and I rubbed its head. They have such big ears! :D
We went through the rest of the center too, played on a boat, talked through pipes, looked at rocks and dinosaurs, and bought rock candy :)
It was quite a day.
Then I made potato salad. I am good at that :)
Then Reid, Anya and I went to Ben & Jerry's. I got lemon meringue. It was very sweet, but I liked it. Then the rent-a-cop kicked us off the "courtyard." Oh well. The car ride was fun, because Reid and I were having a grand time conversing and cracking Anya up. I like it when people can't follow our conversations :D We are special ;)
Today I worked 8 hours. I really like being floor supervisor, I think. Well, scratch that "really," because it's more like I can just stand it a lot more than being a cashier. I am expected to do several things at once, and some of these things are things that I am not authorized to do (i.e.-I don't have a pin number for the money order machine, I don't have a key to the office where the money is, etc.) The time goes by faster, though, and my job isn't that hard. I suppose I like it. I don't make any more money, but Beth said that will come when Rommel (store manager) thinks I've done well enough and that I'll stay in customer service for a while. Whatever. Hopefully that is soon, haha.
I must pack! Mom, Dad and I are going to find some food because we have none in the house because tomorrow we leave for Duck! :D
Oh shit, I need to brush up on my German. I just decided.
