He knew what was up the moment she suggested going home. She was after him, of course. And he wasn't having any of it. He wasn't going to concede. His arms crossed over his chest and he chose to remain standing, for sitting would be displaying his weakness.
Yes, he is. :|whitewizardgirlSeptember 21 2011, 03:36:59 UTC
"It's cold and flu season. And you don't exactly... prepare yourself for it." She tried to remember if he had the ingredients to make a chicken soup, or even the canned version if they were that desperate.
"And, from what I saw today, you have the signs of a cold. So, how long have you had one?"
"I'm absolutely fine." He countered, keeping his tone calm. Of course he wasn't and he probably wasn't even standing as straight as he should have been. He really didn't want to be standing at all, but with Ryou around he had to.
There would be nothing good around his apartment for sickness or remedy. He was too much of an idiot to keep things like that around.

Another cough from Atem. That wasn't helping Yugi's worries any.
"...Are you sure you don't need anything?" Yugi asked again, looking over to his obviously feverish partner. He'd already refused help the first thousand times he asked and even denied being sick, but obviously, his health was more important than his silly pride.
No it was not more important. Gosh Yugi. Haven't you learned anything?
"Of course." He replied easily, still standing about and pretending he was absolutely fine. The last person on earth he wanted to show weakness to or upset was Yugi.

Those words said in that tone sent a burning sensation of guilt straight into his gut. ...or was that just queasiness? It was becoming hard to tell anymore.
The hand holding distracted him enough, only until Yugi continued to go on about sick related topics. Instantly he was trying to pull his hand back. "It's just warm in this room." He tried.
Yuugi heard Atem sniffling earlier that morning and knew in an instant he was sick. Why? Because Atem hardly even looked at him before leaving, so it was up to Yuugi to hunt his other down, and drag him home by the arm.
"Bedtime." He stated when he found him, and it was only three in the afternoon.
It was inevitable, perhaps, that Kaiba would eventually drop his hands to the desk in front of him and glare over his laptop screen at his very tiny but suddenly very noisy rival.
"If you're going to be sick, you cannot do it in here," he growled, watching Atem for any sign of said sickness while he had his eyes on the other. "Some of us have work to do."
His face was flushed and he seemed generally lethargic. Even the turn towards Kaiba when he started speaking was slow. Another sniffle came before he stood, shakily, having to find his balance as his head rushed.
Then he shook said head and turned. "I'm not sick." He insisted. "But I'll go anyway." If Kaiba had noticed it was probably a good idea that he leave so he could preserve some dignity.
The lethargy was probably what disturbed Kaiba the most. His mouth turned down as he watched it, and his eyes narrowed. Even so, he remained sitting at his desk as Atem got up to leave.
"Of course you aren't," he remarked dryly, his tapping resuming as he fired off a quick email to Isono to get security to meet Atem in the front lobby. He wasn't going to let the other walk home, not while he looked like he did. As it was, he was debating whether or not he would let Atem go home at all.
He agreed with a sort of odd scratchy sound in his throat before he cleared it, with a slight pained look, and turned away completely. Then there was the swaying, the hand on his head as if that would make it all stop. He paused for a few seconds before realizing how long it had gone on.
Only then did he go again for the door. He needed to get home and not see Kaiba for a few days. Pride said so. Maybe some more duels.

Taking him home one afternoon to his apartment, she knew enough to turn the heat up slightly and lead him to the couch in the living room.
"So, how long has this going on? The weather is getting colder, you know." She almost sounded motherly in her tone.

Maybe Atem won't mind some sneaky hand-holding. "...You're burning up." Admit that you're sick, damn it!

"It's early in the afternoon." He protested, trying to weakly tug his arm back.

"Everything else can wait until you're better."

The tug wasn't appreciated but with his strength depleted he had no choice but to follow along. "Really, I'm fine."
