Sometimes I feel very disenchanted.

We have a President.

He lost the popular vote in the 2000 Presidential Election.

In the conflict over recounts in Florida, Congressmen from his party and their aides traveled down to counties in Florida where the other candidate was going to win in the recount and threatened the lives of the vote counters, keeping the votes from ever being counted.

In a state his brother governed, tens of thousands of legal minority voters were turned away from voting on election day.

He was elected under the shadow of doubt, and the Supreme Court refused to allow the recounts to occur because it would cause "irrepairable harm to his claim to the Presidency" while mentioning NOTHING about the irrepairable harm done to those whose votes were never counted nor the man who may have truly won, yet would have been denied office.

He was elected by the Supreme Court in a 5-4 decision in which one Justice's (Scalia) sons were his lawyers, another Justice's (Thomas) family members were up for jobs in his administration, and a third Justice (O'Conner) was quoted as saying "This is terrible!" when the Democratic candidate was announced original winner of Florida. None of the three recused themselves.

He lied desperately about the tax cuts he was going to instill.

He lied after taking office of fictional vandalization of the White House by the previous administration.

He appointed a man so unpopular and disliked that that man had just lost an election to someone that had been dead for two weeks to the position of Attorney General.

He seeks to deny basic human rights to a signifigant percentage of American citizens by denying them the right to marry through a Constitutional Amendment.

He lied about Weapons of Mass Destruction existing in a country he declared war on solely because the Weapons allegedly existed there, and then sought to claim that the nonexistent weapons were not really the reason we invaded.

He used an American tragedy and the fear it inspired to pass sweeping legislation that denied Constitutional rights to citizens. Under this legislation, several American citizens have been locked away and denied legal counsel without ever being charged with any crime.

He has ignored the Geneva Convention in regards to treatment of enemy combatants.

His administration outed the identity of an undercover CIA operative, hence threatening her life and forcing her to go into hiding solely because her husband spoke the truth about the administration's claims of Weapons of Mass Destruction. This is, in fact, an act of treason if anyone is ever found guilty of it. But we must keep in mind the aforementioned widely disliked Attorney General's office is the one doing the investigating.

He has shielded himself from any criticism of his actions and policies by forcing protestors away from him during public speeches and putting them in Free Speech Zones up to several miles away from where he was speaking.

He had his public standing and family heritage get himself moved ahead of hundreds of other young men so he could join the National Guard and not serve in Vietnam.

...And then he called his next Presidential opponent--a man whom did participate in Vietnam--weak on security.

He turned the largest surplus in American history (a surplus that existed as of February 2001) into the largest deficit in American history.

He has alienated formerly staunch American allies in the world community.

This is just the briefest smattering of the things Mister George W. Bush has done since he has entered the highest office in the land...

AND HE'S GOING TO BE RE-ELECTED!

The mind reels.
