I *DID* start my novel, and I was doing all right with it (I wrote the Skeleton of the first chapter [Skeleton? Yes. Here's how I'm writing it: I WRITE the chapter, then I let it sit a few days, then I go to the "Editted Version' file and RE-write it, this time adding in all the details I feel I left out and fixing up the dialogue. I intend this version to be MUCH larger and more well-put together than the primary version. That's the INTENT]), but it has been put on the back burner so I can work on a Fan-Fictiony writing tournament I entered at my comicbook message board.
The theory of the tourney is that there are 8 of us, and we each have a team of 7 characters from fiction. We get bracketed off, and we have to write a story where our team confronts our opponent's team. I used to do these a LOT, actually, and won a few. I figured it'd be GREAT practice for writing, and I'm thrilled with how my first round story is going.
In case any of you care--and you don't--here's my team:
Dragon (Image comics, The Savage Dragon)
Van Fanel (A Vision of Escaflowne)
Son Goku (DragonBall Z)
Spider-Man (Marvel comics/Ultimate universe, Ultimate Spider-Man)
Kitty Pryde (Marvel comics/616 universe, Astonishing X-Men)
Beet (Beet the Vandel Buster)
Sgt. Nicholas Angel (Hot Fuzz)
I love that last one. Also, I love the potential of Ultimate Spider-Man and base Marvel universe Kitty Pryde being in the same place at the same time; it's so awkward, and I write a damn-near flawless Ultimate Spidey. I am planning so far in advance, too. The first round story is going to focus mostly on Van Fanel and an Escaflowne-based story. If I advance, my second story is going to be based on Dragon and Nicholas Angel (they're both cops...it's so easy to come up with a policeman officer ball), and the third, if I make it, is going to play off the Ultimate Spidey and 616 Kitty Pryde angle. I LOVE WRITING.
I actually had other things to say; I've been really depressed lately. But I guess I'll play that game later. I got so excited thinking of my practice writings, I ended up talking about that instead. Enjoy.
