I’m curious about the story about Koki getting scars because of Jin’s love life though

Emotional scars, most likely, but it's not unthinkable Jin's love life caused some sort of underwater riot and Koki got involved.

And I love that Jin can’t pretend to drown but he can get Kame sloppy drunk and try to get a kiss that way.

Seriously, none of these fairytales ever specify what happens if the main character initiates the kiss, or if CPR counts. I like technicalities, damnit.

That's because the non-comedy version could easily have been: "Jin was out by himself at night, got assaulted and was left naked on the beach", and I desperately did not want to go down that path. Student pranks seemed a much lighter way to go.

There are a lot of things that never seem to get addressed where merpeople are involved. What happens to their speech, their hair etc. How they procreate is something I don't even want to begin to touch, so exactly what Jin was doing with all those pretty mermaids and mermen before he met Kame, I have no clue. And let's not get into anatomy. I am only willing to put so much thought into fanfic.

And Kame having a clingy ex-boyfriend who won’t leave him alone.
