Emotional scars, most likely, but it's not unthinkable Jin's love life caused some sort of underwater riot and Koki got involved.
And I love that Jin can’t pretend to drown but he can get Kame sloppy drunk and try to get a kiss that way.
Seriously, none of these fairytales ever specify what happens if the main character initiates the kiss, or if CPR counts. I like technicalities, damnit.

That's because the non-comedy version could easily have been: "Jin was out by himself at night, got assaulted and was left naked on the beach", and I desperately did not want to go down that path. Student pranks seemed a much lighter way to go.
And I love Jin’s thoughts on his legs, and that he’s confused at them being pale
All the legs he's used to seeing have been tanned, though! (For the sake of the story, let's pretend pasty people like me never go to the beach.)
